CMC Telecom (officially CMC Telecommunications Infrastructure Corporation) is a Vietnamese telecommunications company established on 5 September 2008 as a subsidiary of CMC Technology Group.
In May 2015, the company became the first telecommunications infrastructure provider in Vietnam to have a foreign strategic investor, following a strategic investment agreement with TIME dotCom Berhad, one of Malaysia’s largest telecommunications groups.[1]
CMC Telecom operates the Cross Vietnam Cable System (CVCS), a national backbone network extending over 2,500 kilometres and directly connected to major global cloud and content providers. The company also operates three data centers located in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, with a combined capacity of approximately 3,000 racks.[2]
Since its founding, CMC Telecom has expanded from an Internet Service Provider (ISP) into a comprehensive telecommunications and digital services provider, offering internet transmission, data center, cloud computing, managed services, and cybersecurity solutions.[3]

History

[edit]CMC launched the first GPON-based FTTX Fiber Internet service in Vietnam.
In 2011, the company opened a branch in Da Nang[4] and became a member of the Asia Data Alliance. During the same year, it joined the Asia-Pacific Gateway (APG) international submarine cable consortium, expanding its regional connectivity.[5]
In January 2013, CMC Technology Group consolidated its telecommunications businesses by merging CMC Telecom and CMC TI into a single entity, the CMC Telecommunications Infrastructure Corporation.[6][7] The company subsequently entered an agreement with VCTV (later VTVcab) to deliver Internet services via cable television and,[8] in June 2013, signed a strategic cooperation deal with Telin, the international subsidiary of Telkom Indonesia. In 2014, CMC Telecom obtained ISO/IEC 27001 certification for its information-security management system applied to data-center services in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. [10] Later that year, it received a license from the Ministry of Information and Communications to provide IPTV (Pay TV) services.

In May 2015, the company became the first Vietnamese Internet service provider to establish a direct connection with Facebook, with Facebook and Akamai deploying servers in its data centers.[11] On 8 May 2015, TIME dotCom Berhad, one of Malaysia’s leading telecommunications groups, became CMC Telecom’s strategic investor, marking the first foreign equity partnership in Vietnam’s telecom-infrastructure sector.[1][12][13]
2016 - 2020
[edit]By 2016, CMC Telecom had become IBM’s exclusive managed-security-services partner in Vietnam and a Tier-1 Cloud Service Provider for Microsoft. The same year, APAC CIO Outlook Magazine listed the company among the Top 25 Promising Telecom Companies in Asia-Pacific.[14]
In December 2017, CMC Telecom commissioned the Cross Vietnam Cable System (CVCS)[2] a 2,500 km national backbone from Lang Son to Tay Ninh, directly connected to the Southeast Asia terrestrial network (A-Grid) linking Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, and Thailand. The company also launched its third data center in Hanoi, the first in Vietnam to achieve PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard)- for payment card data security.[15][16] During the same year, it introduced the CMC Cloud platform and was recognized among the Top 5 most influential enterprises in Vietnam’s Internet industry (2007–2017) by the Vietnam Internet Association. International Finance Magazine (UK) named it Vietnam’s Best Enterprise Telecom Service Provider 2017[3][17]
In 2018, at the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) annual conference in the United States, CMC Telecom became one of the first three companies worldwide to obtain MEF 3.0 certification[18]. The company also achieved Microsoft Gold Competency in Cloud Services[19] and was recognized by International Finance Magazine as Vietnam’s Best Enterprise Service Provider and by APAC CIO Outlook as one of the Top 25 Managed Service Providers in Asia-Pacific.[20]
In 2019, CMC Telecom and its parent group introduced C.OPE2N, Vietnam’s first open infrastructure ecosystem for enterprises and organizations.[21] The company was later named Vietnam’s Best Cloud Service Provider by International Finance Magazine and ranked among the Top 4 Data Center Providers in Asia at the Telecom Asia Awards 2019.[22]
In 2020, CMC Telecom was awarded Most Innovative Cloud Service Provider 2020 by International Finance Magazine (UK), listed by CIO Advisor APAC (U.S.) among the Top 10 SD-WAN Providers in Asia-Pacific, and included in the Top 10 Digital Transformation Platforms by VINASA.[23]
2021 - 2025
[edit]In 2021, the company became an Advanced Tier Service Partner of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and a Premier Partner of Google Cloud.[24]
In August 2022, CMC Telecom opened the Tan Thuan Data Center, the first in Vietnam to receive dual Uptime Tier III certifications for both Design and Construction.[25] During the same year, CMC Cloud was recognized as a Vietnam National Brand[26]; while CMC Data Center received several global distinctions, including Best Data Center by Global Business Review (U.S.) [27] ; Most Competitive Data Center Strategy by Frost & Sullivan (U.S.), and Best Digital Infrastructure Provider by International Finance Magazine (UK),...
In 2023, CMC Telecom became the leading telecommunications provider for Vietnam’s BFSI sector (banking, finance, securities, insurance). It won two awards at the Asian Telecom Awards 2023 for Innovative Cloud Service and Innovative Digital Infrastructure, and received the Silver Make in Vietnam Award from the Ministry of Information and Communications for its CMC Cloud service.[28]
In 2024, the company announced its transition to a Comprehensive Service Provider (CSP) model and launched COC – Comprehensive Operation Center, integrating five main service domains: Network, Data Center, CMC Cloud, Cyber Security, and Managed Services. That year, the Tan Thuan Data Center became the first in Vietnam to receive Level 4 Information Security certification—the highest level—jointly assessed by the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Ministry of Public Security, and the Ministry of National Defense.[29] It also earned the Uptime Tier III Sustainable Operations certification, becoming the only data center in Vietnam to hold all three Tier III certifications for Design, Construction, and Operation.[30]
In 2025, at the 6th Vietnam National Digital Technology Enterprise Development Forum, CMC Telecom[31] was tasked with developing CMC Cloud into Vietnam’s leading cloud platform, fully built with domestic virtualization technologies. The company was named Cybersecurity Initiative of the Year at the Asian Telecom Awards 2025 and introduced a comprehensive cybersecurity ecosystem including CCSP (CMC Cyber Security Platform) and CCSS (CMC Cyber Security Services). On 1 July 2025, CMC Telecom joined CREST (Council of Registered Ethical Security Testers), marking its compliance with international penetration-testing standards and reinforcing its cybersecurity capabilities.[32]
