Bland AI is an American artificial intelligence company based in San Francisco, California. The company develops voice-based conversational agents for enterprises using their self-hosted models and is notable for using hyper-realistic voice cloning and conversational automation technologies.[1][2]

History

[edit]

Bland AI was founded in 2023.[1] The company raised US$16 million in a Series A funding round led by Scale Venture Partners, with participation from Y Combinator and other investors.[3] In early 2025, Bland AI secured a US$40 million Series B funding round led by Emergence Capital, bringing total disclosed investment to US$65 million.[2] According to AI Magazine, Bland’s systems can manage over one million simultaneous phone calls using synthetic voices and self-hosted AI infrastructure.[2]

Products and technology

[edit]

Independent reporting describes Bland AI’s main product as an enterprise-grade conversational agent designed to automate sales and customer service calls.[2] The system uses voice technology to produce natural-sounding dialogue in real time across voice, SMS, and web chat. Business Today reported that the company’s text-to-speech engine, known as Bland TTS, can perform “one-shot” voice style transfer from a single audio sample, replicating tone and emotion with high fidelity.[4]

Operations

[edit]

Bland AI operates primarily on an enterprise software-as-a-service model, targeting organizations that handle large volumes of customer interactions. Its investors include Y Combinator, Scale Venture Partners, and Emergence Capital.[2] The company’s products are marketed for integration with existing call center infrastructure and can support multiple voices, accents, and languages.[2]

Reception and criticism

[edit]

Some commentators have raised concerns about the potential misuse of realistic voice cloning for fraud and impersonation, but this seems to be a small concern in comparison.[5]
