| Submission declined on 16 September 2025 by Moritoriko (talk). This submission is not adequately supported by reliable sources. Reliable sources are required so that information can be verified. If you need help with referencing, please see Referencing for beginners and Citing sources. This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia. Encyclopedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed. This is important so that the article can meet Wikipedia's verifiability policy and the notability of the subject can be established. If you still feel that this subject is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, please rewrite your submission to comply with these policies.

Comment: Even with the large trimming after the last decline it still reads very promotionally and the sources are not the high quality SIRS sources that we (I?) look for especially for pages about organizations. A lot of the sources, like 1 and 3 are primarily quoting business members for information with little analysis around the quotes which means that the information really isn't Secondary. Other sources like 5, are basically from the company itself which is not Independent. I hope this helps you in your search to find better quality sources to support this page :) Moritoriko (talk) 13:17, 16 September 2025 (UTC)
Comment: We need independent secondary sources but primary sources and press releases. Stuartyeates (talk) 10:20, 13 August 2025 (UTC)

BENEO is a developer and producer of functional ingredients from natural sources for the food, feed and pharmaceutical industries. Beneo is a subsidiary of Südzucker.
Formed in 2007 by the merger of the companies Orafti, Palatinit and Remy. BENEO is active in over 80 countries, employs more than 1000 people and has 6 production sites in Belgium, Chile, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands.
However, its history extends back to the 1800s: in 1855 Edouard Remy founded the company 'Remy’ in Wijgmaal (Belgium).[1] And in 1889 founding of the Oreye (Belgium) plant, as a sugar beet refinery, later Orafti.
Sustainability
[edit]BENEO has a corporate sustainability strategy, the Healthy Planet Plan, which aims to improve environmental performance in its supply chain. Initiatives include investments in energy efficiency, renewable energy, and sourcing local raw materials.[2]
History
[edit]The origins of Beneo date back to 1855, when Edouard Remy established a rice mill in Wijgmaal, near Leuven, Belgium. Here is the beginning of Remy Industries, which started with rice starch. Orafti, a company of Beneo since 2007, was originally established in 1889 as a sugar beet refinery in Oreye, Belgium. In 1957, Professor Rudolf Weidenhagen discovered the carbohydrate isomaltulose, which led to further development in the 1960s by Dr. Hubert Schiweck into ISOMALT, a sugar replacer. In 1979, German sugar producer Südzucker established the subsidiary Palatinit GmbH in Germany to produce ISOMALT. In 1989, Raffinerie Tirlemontoise (Tien Sugar) was acquired by Südzucker, and with it Orafti, the subsidiary active in functional ingredients. In 1992, commercial production of inulin and oligofructose began at the Oreye site, after converting the former sugar beet refinery into a chicory processing facility. In 2001, Orafti acquired Remy Industries, integrating Remy's rice starch business within Orafti. The year after in 2002, they made a scale expansion at the German production site in Offstein. In 2005 Palatinose™ was launched, a low glycemic carbohydrate.[3] One year later, on April 19th 2006, it got a GRAS notification from the FDA.[4] Also in 2005, Beneo opened a new production facility in Confienza, Italy. The plant was established to expand the company’s capacity for producing rice flour for use in food, feed and pharmaceutical applications This was followed in 2006 by galenIQ®, a pharmaceutical grade of ISOMALT, which was included in the U.S. Pharmacopoeia (USP) and the National Formulary (NF).
BENEO was established in 2007 through the merger of Orafti, Remy, and Palatinit. The company continued operations as a subsidiary of Südzucker, with activities in food ingredients, animal feed, and pharmaceutical applications. In 2014, BENEO invested in capacity expansion and a biomass boiler in Pemuco, Chile. In 2018, the U.S. FDA recognized inulin and oligofructose from BENEO as dietary fiber.[5][6] In 2021, BENEO invested €50 million in expansion of chicory root processing in Pemuco, Chile, and Oreye, Belgium.[7] In 2022, BENEO acquired Dutch company Meatless, a producer of vegetable texturizers.[8] In April 2025, BENEO opened a new plant for processing locally grown legumes such as faba beans in Obrigheim.[9]
