Basis Technologies is a United Kingdom–based software company that develops intelligent change management software and automation solutions for SAP systems. Its products help organizations drive continuous change in SAP ECC, S/4HANA, and SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) environments. The company’s best-known solutions include ActiveControl, ActiveDiscover, BDEx, and its flagship AI-powered intelligent change-management platform, Klario.
Company History
[edit]Basis Technologies was originally established in Melbourne, Australia in 1997 and has been headquartered in London, UK since 2003. The company has focused on SAP change management software for more than two decades, with its tools enabling SAP customers to drive secure, continuous change at the speed of business. The company gained prominence in the late 2010s when ActiveControl became central to enabling continuous delivery and agile development practices in SAP environments.
This positioned Basis Technologies as one of the first vendors to apply DevOps principles to SAP landscapes, helping organizations to deliver secure SAP change with software that orchestrates transports, manages dependencies, and maintains audit-ready compliance.
In subsequent years, Basis Technologies has expanded its product portfolio. In 2023, the company launched ActiveDiscover Archived 2023-06-29 at the Wayback Machine, a tool designed to allow SAP teams to assess risk and potential impact earlier in the development cycle, including in complex and hybrid landscapes.
Two years later, on-stage at the SAP Sapphire 2025 conference in Orlando, SAP’s Thomas Saueressig announced Klario. Klario is Basis Technologies’ AI-powered intelligent change-management platform built with input from SAP’s Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) group.
Klario marked a shift toward AI-assisted automation in SAP change processes, helping to quickly translate business requests into actionable SAP requirements and guiding decision-making with data-driven insights.
Klario’s key product capabilities include a conversational AI to turn business requests into a list of SAP change approaches, AI insights surfacing how global SAP teams have delivered similar requests, and the ability to generate ready-to-execute blueprints in minutes instead of months.
- 2018 – ActiveControl, the company’s SAP automation solution, became the centerpiece of its product offerings, enabling continuous delivery and agile practices within SAP.
- 2020s – Basis Technologies expanded ActiveControl’s capabilities to support integration with broader ecosystems and improve automated testing within SAP change processes.
- 2023 – The company launched ActiveDiscover, a change-design and risk-analysis tool that helps SAP teams assess the potential impact of changes early in the development lifecycle before they enter production.
- 2025 – Basis Technologies introduced Klario at the SAP Sapphire conference in Orlando. Developed with input from SAP’s Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) group, Klario applies AI-powered intelligent change management to help organizations translate business requests into detailed SAP requirements and guide decision-making with data-driven insights.
