BLKBX: wht r u hding? is the debut studio album by American singer-songwriter Gaustad, released independently on September 10, 2021. The album explores themes such as body dysmorphia, sexual identity, depression, and peer pressure, drawing from Gaustad's personal experiences during their youth. It has been praised for its raw and vulnerable lyrics, as well as its innovative fusion of pop, alternative, and indie sounds.
Background
[edit]BLKBX was written and recorded primarily by Gaustad over the course of 2019, 2020 and 2021, during a period of personal reflection and self-discovery. The album delves deeply into the struggles of mental health, offering an unfiltered perspective on the challenges faced by young people dealing with issues such as body image and societal expectations. Gaustad has stated that the album was inspired by their desire to create an honest and authentic narrative about mental health and self-identity.
In addition to the album, Gaustad launched The BLKBX Project, a mental health initiative aimed at providing resources and support for teenagers facing similar struggles. The project focuses on creating a safe space for teens to access information and connect with others through its motto "Listen, Learn, Act."
