BASHI (born Joshua Bashford on 17 April 2004) is a British singer, songwriter, and record producer from South East London. Known for blending pop melodies with electronic production, he has independently released music since his early teens and gained attention in the UK’s independent scene with the 2025 single "I WON’T".

Early life and education

[edit]

BASHI was born and raised in South East London. He began producing music at the age of 13, initially experimenting with pop and electronic sounds. He later attended Point Blank Music School in London, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Music Production & Audio Engineering. He is proficient in multiple digital audio workstations (DAWs), including FL Studio, Pro Tools, Logic Pro, and Ableton Live.

Career

[edit]

BASHI began releasing music independently in 2017, developing a style rooted in pop but often layered with ambient and electronic textures. In January 2025, he released "I WON’T", a collaborative single with [1] Nick Bonin and [2] sindr. The song, built around an energetic 150 BPM tempo and emotive vocals, became his most streamed release and marked a turning point in his career.

Other singles include "Alone Forever", "PLANET", and "Talk To Me", each showcasing BASHI’s evolving production techniques and genre versatility. His work is characterised by introspective songwriting, polished electronic instrumentation, and a distinct melodic approach.

In 2024, BASHI collaborated with emerging artist Marino on the track "Alone Forever" (released via Spotify), which introduced both artists to wider audiences.[3] While the release marked a key moment in BASHI’s electronic-pop exploration, it also coincided with Marino’s rapid rise in the independent music scene. The collaboration highlights BASHI’s knack for working with rising talents and shaping emotionally resonant, genre-fluid pop music.[3]

Musical style and influences

[edit]

BASHI’s music is rooted in pop, often incorporating electronic elements, ambient textures, and modern production techniques. His sound typically features layered synths, crisp drum programming, and melodic vocals. He draws inspiration from both mainstream pop artists and experimental electronic producers, resulting in a hybrid style that appeals to a broad audience.

Influence of PROP

[edit]

A significant figure in BASHI’s artistic development is the producer and artist [4] PROP. Early in BASHI’s career, PROP played a mentorship role, notably introducing him to the fundamentals of music production using FL Studio. This technical guidance helped lay the foundation for BASHI’s self-produced work and set the stage for his distinct sound.

In 2023, PROP went on to produce the entirety of BASHI’s third major release, the album [5] GLITCH SZN 3, further cementing their creative synergy. The album showcased a darker, more experimental take on BASHI’s pop-electronic style and marked a key moment in his evolution as a producer and performer.

Friendship and collaboration with sindr

[edit]

BASHI has maintained a long-term creative partnership and close personal friendship with Norwegian artist sindr. The two met online in 2018 and began collaborating musically through Discord, building a body of work over several years despite never meeting in person. Their dynamic grew organically through remote sessions and shared musical direction, becoming a cornerstone of BASHI’s early and ongoing development as an artist.

In April 2023, BASHI met [2] sindr in person for the first time while visiting Norway, a moment made possible by BASHI’s relationship with a Norwegian partner. The two artists have continued to collaborate closely, releasing tracks that blend their respective indie/pop and electronic influences.

One of their most recent notable recent works is sindr’s single "Disguise", featuring BASHI, released in 2024.[6] The song has gained attention on streaming platforms for its emotionally charged vocals, atmospheric production, and seamless synergy between the two artists.
