Creative Software is a Sri Lankan information technology company that provides offshore software engineering and IT services to global clients. Headquartered in Colombo, Sri Lanka, the company’s offerings include software development, quality assurance, DevOps, cloud migration, and technical support. Creative Software serves organizations across multiple industries, including enterprise resource planning (ERP), healthcare, and financial technology, with development teams delivering solutions for clients in Europe, North America, and Asia.[1]

History

[edit]

Creative Software was established in 1999 as one of Sri Lanka’s early offshore software development firms. The company began by providing dedicated software engineering teams to Scandinavian clients and gradually expanded its services to include quality assurance, product engineering, and technical support. [2]

During its early years, Creative Software focused on serving European technology companies, particularly in Norway and Sweden, establishing itself as a long-term outsourcing partner in enterprise and cloud-based software projects. The company later diversified its operations to support clients in North America and Asia, reflecting the wider global demand for Sri Lankan IT services.[3]

In 2019, Creative Software opened a new development center in Colombo 03 to accommodate a growing workforce and an expanding client base. By 2022, the company employed over 500 professionals and had built long-standing relationships with international enterprises across industries such as telecommunications, healthcare, financial technology, and enterprise resource planning. [4]

In 2024, Creative Software marked its 25th anniversary, recognized in national business media for its sustained operations, contribution to the IT export sector, and role in positioning Sri Lanka as a technology outsourcing destination. [5][6]

Operations

[edit]

Creative Software has worked with a diverse set of international clients, particularly in Europe and Scandinavia, on long-term engagements involving software development, cloud migration, enterprise systems, and product engineering. According to the company’s published “Customer Stories” it has delivered solutions for a Dutch corporate reporting platform, a Norwegian e-health provider, a digital contract platform in Europe, a scalable multi-system travel booking platform for the Nordics, and a Swedish digital accounting platform.[7]

One example involves a partnership with the Scandinavian firm Wint where Creative Software helped build a digital accounting platform and provided extended software engineering teams.[8] The firm also reports a collaboration with a Norwegian e-health solutions provider, where its contribution was described as significant to innovation and delivery of the solution.[9]

Media coverage of Creative Software’s 25-year milestone indicates that the company has maintained clients across four continents—South Asia, Europe, North America and Australia—and maintains a notable presence in the Scandinavian region.[3]

Leadership

[edit]

Creative Software was co-founded in 1999 by four Sri Lankan technology professionals, each now serving as Directors of the company: Jonas Bridgwater, Sushena Ranatunga, Sajith Peiris and Johann Senaratna.[5] According to the company’s website, the management team collectively brings over 100 years of experience servicing international clients. [10]

In a milestone feature marking the 25-year anniversary, Director Sushena Ranatunga observed that “over the past 25 years, Creative Software has been at the forefront of transforming Sri Lanka into a preferred destination for IT off-shoring.” [3] Director Jonas Bridgwater highlighted the company’s success as rooted in client trust, team dedication and a growth-oriented approach to global partnerships.[6]

Additionally, various senior executives support the founding team in operational roles. For instance, Damitha Liyanage holds the role of Software Engineering Director and Channa De Silva is also listed among the Software Engineering Directors.[11] Their leadership structure underscores a commitment to combining strong client-facing direction (via the founding co-directors) with deep technical management (via engineering directors) — a model the company credits for its sustained growth and global delivery capability.

Industry Presence

[edit]

Creative Software has maintained a significant presence in Sri Lanka’s information technology and software services sector since its establishment in 1999. The company is recognized as one of the early contributors to the country’s offshore software development industry, helping position Sri Lanka as a preferred destination for IT outsourcing.[12]

It is a member of the Sri Lanka Association for Software and Services Companies (SLASSCOM) and has been featured in multiple national business publications, including Daily FT, Daily Mirror, The Island, Ada Derana Biz, and LMD.[12][5][3][4][6]

Media coverage has documented Creative Software’s continued growth, including the expansion of its Colombo development centers and the company’s long-term partnerships with clients in Europe, North America, and Asia. These reports have also noted its emphasis on people-led management and sustained contributions to the country’s IT services export market. [2]
