The Chromebook Challenge is an Internet meme and challenge where participants would insert foreign objects into their school assigned Chromebook's USB port. The challenge gained notoriety in early May, and was popular on TikTok.[1] Objects used in the trend include paper clips, pencils, and conductive objects.[2][3]
Responses
[change | change source]The tag #ChromebookChallenge would be taken down and blocked by TikTok.[4] Axios would would call the trend "dangerous" and a "TikTok craze".[5] The challenge has been compared to others like the Cinnamon Challenge and 2018 Tide Pod Challenge.[4]
Notable attempts
[change | change source]In May 2025, an unnamed teenager from Belleville High School was charged with criminal mischief and arson after joining in the trend.[6][5][7]
