C. Constantin Poindexter

C. Constantin Poindexter (born November 1970) is an Domimincan-American entrepreneur, attorney, and insurance executive. He is the founder of Surety One, Inc., a multinational surety bond underwriter and managing general agency. Poindexter is also a founding partner of VSP Consultores Legales, S.A., a cross-border law firm headquartered in the Dominican Republic and Janus Assurance Re, an international insurer. He is widely recognized for his contributions to the surety industry, his expertise in international law, and his ongoing philanthropic initiatives.

Early Life and Education

Carlyle Constantin Poindexter was born in November 1970, as the only son of Dr. J.C. Poindexter (1943–) and his first wife, H. Elizabeth Wells Salcedo (1945-2004). He is a direct descendant of John Poindexter (Jean Poingdestre) who immigrated to the tidewater area of Virginia in 1657.  His father was a professor of business for thirty nine years at North Carolina State University, and his mother was an elementary school teacher. Poindexter's paternal grandfather Dr. J. Carl Poindexter Sr. was resident of Franklin County, Virginia to earn a PhD. His uncle, Charles Douglas Poindexter served in the Virginia House of Delegates. Poindexter has three sisters, Katherine, Taylor, Parker and Paula.

Poindexter earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from North Carolina State University. He later completed a Master’s degree in Intelligence and a Graduate Certificate in Counterintelligence from American Military University. In recognition of his academic performance at AMU, Poindexter was inducted into the Order of the Sword and Shield, a national honor society in the national security discipline for high-achieving students. He holds a law degree from the Pontificia Universidad Católica (PCMA) of Salamanca.

Furthering his specialization in insurance, Poindexter obtained the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation, as well as associate-level credentials from The Institutes in fidelity and surety bonding, surplus lines insurance, and reinsurance. His qualifications also include North Carolina Department of Justice certification as a firearms instructor and certification as a law enforcement armorer.

Career

From 2006 through 2010, Poindexter served as a contractor within the U.S. Intelligence Community. During this time, he completed multiple overseas deployments in the Middle East, focusing on instruction in light weapons, counterinsurgency, and intelligence/counterintelligence activities. From 1994 to present he has owned and managed various commercial entities in the insurance industry. Poindexter was the youngest applicant to be granted a professional bondsman's license in the State of North Carolina. He owned and managed a private investigative agency, Poindexter & Associates, Inc. from 1995 to 2024.

Surety One, Inc.

In 2000, Poindexter founded Surety One, Inc., a surety bond underwriter, brokerage, and managing general agency licensed in all 50 U.S. states, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Dominican Republic.

The company's introduction of artificial intelligence and other novel technologies to streamline underwriting and its willingness to accommodate diverse risk profiles have established Surety One, Inc. as a leader in the space.

VSP Consultores Legales, S.A.

Poindexter is a founding partner of VSP Consultores Legales, S.A., a legal practice serving clients in the Dominican Republic, the United States, and across international jurisdictions. The firm focuses on civil and commercial litigation, family and tourism law, maritime matters, and offshore corporate structures. It is particularly well-regarded for its handling of cross-border legal complexities, offering bespoke legal solutions to multinational clients.

Certifications

Poindexter has earned the Re Scholar certification from the Reinsurance Association of America, an advanced designation held by a select group of reinsurance professionals. He holds an Associate in Insurance Services, Associate in Insurance, Associate in Fidelity and Surety Bonding, and Associate in Surplus Lines Insurance. The Society of Property Casualty Underwriters awarded him the CPCU designation in 2024. Poindexter is a certified veteran suicide counselor and holds certifications in explosives/EOD awarded by the International Society of Explosives Engineers.

Philanthropy

Directly, through his charitable foundation, or through matching agreements with the social responsibility offices of his business enterprises, Poindexter financially supports many charity initiatives. His support focuses on scholarship funds for underprivileged youth, organizations that address child hunger and to those institutions that address serious childhood illnesses.
