토마스 맨톤

토마스 맨톤 (Thomas Manton, 1620년 3월 21일-1677년 10월 18일)는 영국의 청교도 성직자이다. 그는 웨스트민스터 총회(Westminster Assembly)에서 서기였으며 올리버 크롬웰의 교구목사였다.

어린 시절

토마스 맨튼은 1620년에 잉글랜드 남서부의 주 서머싯 주 리더애드 세인트 로렌스에서 태어났다. 그의 부친과 조부도 목회자였다. 와드햄(Wadham) 대학교와 옥스퍼드 대학교를 졸업한 후에 조셉 홀(Joseph Hall) 주교로부터 1639년에 안수를 받았다. 안수 받은 뒤의 첫 설교 제목은 '비판하지 말라, 그렇지 않으면 비판 받을 것이다'였다. 그가 결혼한 뒤 처음으로 한 강해설교는 야고보서였다. 이 강해설교는 가장 모범이 되는 강해 설교중의 하나이다.
