Cercopithecus Catarrhiniren barruko Cercopithecidae familiako generoetako bat da. 28 espezie ezagutzen dira. Gehienez ere 1,3 metro neurtzen dituzte eta 8 bat kilogramoko pisua dute. 25 urteko bizi-itxaropena dute.
Euren dietan fruituak, haziak, loreak, grama, intsektuak, narrastiak eta txoriak daude. Afrika osoan bizi dira, batez ere sabanan, manglaretan eta ura dagoen mendietan.
Gehienak 20-40 kideko taldetan bizi dira. Bertan eme heldu bakoitzak bere familia-talde txikiagoa du. Espresioak egiteko gaitasun handia dute.
