08:46:45, 14 September 2020 review of draft by EricLewan

Hello, I would like to request some help regarding this article. This is the largest sparkling wine producer in Eastern Europe and I think it definitely should have a page on English Wikipedia, although I'm not entirely sure where does the article look promotional or missing any significant references. The information was mostly taken from the Ukrainian Wikipedia page and the articles from the press and the official website of the winery. Can you advice what needs to be changed?

EricLewan (talk) 08:46, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

EricLewan As noted by the reviewer, the draft is not sourced to independent reliable sources with significant coverage. Press releases and other information from the company itself do not establish notability as Wikipedia defines a notable company. Each language version of Wikipedia is its own project with its own editors and policies, and what is acceptable on one version is not necessarily acceptable here(assuming the Ukrainian version is in keeping with their policies). 331dot (talk) 08:57, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

08:47:06, 14 September 2020 review of submission by Pradyumn444

Could I get some feedback on why my article was deleted and what should be done to move through this process? I believe it has appropriate references, is formatted correctly, and meets notability criteria.

Pradyumn444 (talk) 08:47, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The draft has not been deleted; it is pending review. 331dot (talk) 08:55, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies, I meant that the article on the Aradhna Dayal page was deleted and moved to my drafts.

Pradyumn444 You seem to have a conflict of interest, as such, you should not directly create the article, but instead submit it for review by an independent editor first. I strongly suggest that you move the article back to Draft and do so. 331dot (talk) 09:40, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Team, I need my contributions on Prysm, Inc. & Sandiip Kapur to be Live on the Wikipedia page. Please help.

Preshtha Kalsyan (talk) 10:15, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

On hold pending paid editing disclosure, see User talk:Preshtha Kalsyan#Declare any connection. --Worldbruce (talk) 13:28, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Preshtha Kalsyan: Thank you for your declaration.
The company website is not an independent source. Crunchbase is mostly user-generated, so not a reliable source (see WP:RS/PS). PR Newswire is a press release, so not independent. The Statesman is a shallow list of search results, so not a valid source. You could fix that fairly easily by deep linking to the single result, but that story is another press release, so not independent. TechPoint has no reputation for accuracy and fact checking. Its directory-listing blurb about the company appears to have been written by the company, so not independent.
Novice editors are commonly advised to cite at least three independent, reliable, secondary sources that contain significant information about their subject. The draft cites zero. In theory you could fix the problem by finding such sources, throwing away the draft, and starting over from scratch. In practice, such sources almost never exist for a company like this, so the topic is almost certainly doomed. Since you're not getting paid to write about it, move on to a topic that has some chance of being published. Articles about existing companies, their products, founders, and CEOs have very low acceptance rates, so avoid those areas if you want to be successful. --Worldbruce (talk) 17:08, 15 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there. I would like some support on the submission I have just made. It says that there needs to be more secondary sources. I was wondering how many sources is a good number and how I should be amending it.

Commonly three reliable independent sources with some coverage. Note that this the absolute minimum, the longer your article is, the more you will need. Victor Schmidt mobil (talk) 11:40, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

15:07:36, 14 September 2020 review of submission by SouthernCharm10!

Hello, I am looking for advice on my article. I was rejected due to not complying with Wikipedia but I went ahead and before I created the article I made sure to follow the five pillars of Wikipedia but it looks like I still was in contrary to Wikipedias purpose. If there is someone who can help me review my article so I may help post useful information to the users of Wikipedia.

Thank you! SouthernCharm10! (talk) 15:07, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

SouthernCharm10! What you wrote was a clear advertisement for the school. Wikipedia is not for merely providing information, it summarizes what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about a subject, showing how it meets Wikipedia's special definition of notability. Wikipedia has no interest in what a subject wants to say about itself.
If you work for the school, please read about conflict of interest and paid editing for disclosures you may be required to make. 331dot (talk) 16:49, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I want to contribute to wikipedia for the reason of improving my writing skills while writing about things that I know about. I am not allowed to create or edit any big pages so I decided to create a list of restaurants of a small country and populate information on all restaurants. Please let me know how I can contribute better! The article I have written does not sound promotional at all. I have tried to keep it as unbiased as possible. Therefore I request you to reconsider the deltion.

Hi, I'm sorry, this is clinical info about the treatment side effects that should not be rewritten per se. I have permission from the company to pick up verbatim - can I submit that permission to you? The medical director is a bit insistent about not straying from their fda-approved language about side effects... Can you please copy / send me the exact copy that you are objecting to and I can see what I can do to make it less of a direct pick up while still appeasing the FDA & the medical director.

LDobbs (talk) 19:13, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ldobbs The reviewers left the comments you are seeking on your draft. The company cannot grant you permission, the text must already be under an appropriate license that allows for its use on Wikipedia. It is possible for them to donate copyrighted materials- see WP:DCP- but the company may not wish to do that once they learn what doing so means(I might not want to if I were them). Wikipedia primarily summarizes what independent reliable sources state. 331dot (talk) 21:48, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

21:01:08, 14 September 2020 review of draft by Green red tan

I am brand new to Wikipedia so I'm sorry if I don't know all of the rules. I am trying to publish a Wikipedia page for Theresa Greenfield, the Democratic Senate candidate in Iowa. She is not just a candidate at this point, as she has won the primary election, and has received very significant media coverage. Please let me know what other information is needed so that voters can be informed this upcoming election.

Thanks!

Green red tan (talk) 21:01, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Green red tan Winning a primary only means she was chosen as the nominee, she is still technically only a candidate until she wins the election. Most coverage of her is due to the election in progress; to merit an article now she needs to be shown as notable for something else, or that coverage of her is so widespread and extensive that she meets WP:GNG(an example of this rare thing is Christine O'Donnell). I personally have not seen such a high level of sustained, nationwide coverage of Greenfield. I think we will need to wait to see if she wins(she would merit an article once it is determined that she won) 331dot (talk) 21:38, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I would add that Wikipedia is not intended as a voter guide. 331dot (talk) 21:40, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much for the feedback 331dot, it is very helpful. I added several national news sources that cover Greenfield specifically, such as Vox and The Hill. How many do you think would be necessary to meet the burden of sustained nationwide coverage? Thanks again! Green red tan (talk) 21:45, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Christine O'Donnell merited an article because there was constant, sustained coverage of her campaign and political views, not only in the Delaware area but nationally. I recall she was close to top headline news for awhile(because she was running against then Sen. Biden combined with her Tea Party views). I'm not seeing that with Greenfield. Certainly that is just my opinion and you (and others) are free to disagree and resubmit your draft- but I can only tell you what I think. 331dot (talk) 21:53, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

22:51:57, 14 September 2020 review of submission by Dvanrijn

My article was rejected because of lack of references. My research on this small town consisted of interviews and with local publications done in the area. I believe the entry into Wikipedia will be of benefit for anyone doing research on small towns in the Illinois. Dvanrijn (talk) 22:51, 14 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dvanrijn, while your draft article is quite interesting, as the reviewer of your draft said, what you have written is more in the style of an essay than an encyclopedia article, and if your article is based on research you have done in the form of interviews then what you have done seems to constitute original research, which Wikipedia doesn't host. Wikipedia needs all information in the articles to be verified by reference to published sources, and although you have listed some references at the bottom of the article only the first one gives an indication that it was published. You might want to read over Help:Referencing for beginners for a guide to what standards of referencing Wikipedia requires. If you have done some original research that you would like to record for the benefit of future scholars then Wikipedia isn't a good place to try and publish this.Pi (Talk to me!) 04:04, 15 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Also, after I login to my wiki page where do i go to find my incomplete draft so I can continued adding more information.

2601:282:603:8BC0:0:0:0:1 (talk) 02:06, 15 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

"Save" and "publish" are identical as far as Wikipedia is concerned ("Publish page" in fact used to be "save page" until people complained about the exact same issue you presently are). If you want to save it to work on it in private later, save it to a .txt file. —A little blue Bori v^_^v Hasteur Hasteur Ha-- oh.... 02:34, 15 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi TheRealMystic101 There are no independent reliable sources on that article that support the subject's notability, which is why the reviewer declined the article. If you read some of the links on the article's review they will give you some information about Wikipedia's requirements for establishing notability. Additionally, writing an article about yourself is strongly discouraged, perhaps read WP:AUTOBIOGRAPHY for more information on that Pi (Talk to me!) 00:44, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

01:30:51, 16 September 2020 review of submission by HAshagreY

I hereby request a re-review of the publication because I respectfully disagree with the decision of the last revision. The subject is an up and coming versatile personality that is changing the lives of so many in Ethiopian and globally. While followed by hundreds of thousands through his multicultural music; his pedagogical initiative is completely changing the landscape of early childhood education in a third world country-Ethiopia. His innovative way of presenting the ever complex Amharic alphabet in a fun and interactive manner to the younger generation and promoting learning is a phenomena like no other for the preservation of this ancient language. His exemplary respect to the legacy of history and love to the African cause is to be celebrated. Thank you in advance for the consideration to re review the publishing. HAshagreY (talk) 01:30, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@HAshagreY: Hi there. Wikipedia doesn't care about "up and coming" subjects, we care about notable, established subjects as defined by our General Notability Guideline. The article draft, in its present state reads like a desperate promo piece. Have you not read any quality articles? You might want to look at some Good Article-rated content so you have an idea of what the goal is. Sylvester (singer), Annie (singer), and Mina (Italian singer) are some examples. While you may think you're doing the article subject some benefit by opining about their passion and pride and "primary ojbjective in life", to rank-and-file Wikipedians, this sort of stuff just sounds like a PR department trying to make their subject sound more important, and experienced editors are not interested in seeing that. Also, if you have a conflict of interest--maybe you know the guy, maybe you work for the guy, maybe the guy rents a room in your apartment--whatever the case may be, you shouldn't be editing articles related to the subject, because people with conflicts of interest have difficulty writing objectively about subjects. Go figure. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 04:08, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It also states that my article does not have a lead section. Why doesn't my overview section count as a lead section?

@Ckentstow: citing an employee will not help to establish notability in Wikipedia's sence of the word. When Wikipedians talk about lead sections, we usally mean one to two sentences that give you a fast overview over the topic of the article, notably xxx is a ... . I am confused why I am being flagged for copyright for my article in my Sandbox? I referenced material from the website that is about the topic. I was also flagged for citing a free online PDF of a report, even though the report from last year cited a similar free online PDF.

PanoramaGlobal (talk) 17:58, 16 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@PanoramaGlobal: Yust because something is online available, it doesnt mean its out of copyright, in fact, most of the texts on the internet are copyrighted. I don't see any evidence that the three indicated sources are free of copyright, indeed, they all appear to be copyrighted. the pdf is somewhat an exemption to this, as it is not "all rights reserved", but licensed under this license, howewer this doesn't change anything because Wikipedia doesn't accept content released under NonCommercial creative commons licenses, even if it would be allowed by law. Please be advised that 99% of the texts that were not written spefically for Wikipedia are also unsiutable for Wikipedia, even if you could get the copyright stuff resolved. In this case, if the draft would not get deleted as a copyvio, it would be deleted as WP:PROMO as it currently fails the WP:NPOV-Policy in large parts. To sum this up, please write in your own words. 03:10:37, 17 September 2020 review of submission by Tecosaur

Hello!

I've just tried to submit my first article on the Magit Git client. All the references I've used have been from the Magit project so it's been declined on the basis that "None of the references that you provided are independent of the subject."

Looking around for other sources the main thing I can find isn't so much people generally musing on the nature of Magit, but Blog posts/Tutorials. I'll link to a few that I found below:

There's also the listing of Magit as a git client on https://git-scm.com/downloads/guis/.

If someone might have some suggestions on how I could use these in my draft that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: I think I've got this sorted now :)

Howdyjohnwatson (talk) 09:13, 17 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Howdyjohnwatson This is not the place to request a Wikipedia article(not a mere "page"); you may do so at Requested Articles- though there are tens of thousands of requests there and few editors to fulfill them. If this company meets the special Wikipedia definition of a notable company, as shown with significant coverage in independent reliable sources, you could attempt to write an article yourself- though be advised that successfully writing a new article is the hardest thing to do here. If you work for this company, you should first review conflict of interest ad paid editing to make the required declarations. 331dot (talk) 09:41, 17 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

10:29:40, 17 September 2020 review of submission by Ser!

Hi. I've created an article on someone who meets multiple of the criteria for WP:MUSIC. As a DJ, he falls under the first category. He meets number 2 (his song The Trouble With Us reached #8 in the Australian main charts), number 3 (that same single was certified double platinum in Australia), number 8 (has been nominated for two categories in the APRA awards of 2017) and number 11 (was placed on rotation on Triple J). I've added sources to the article for every one of these claims, that can be accessed in the article itself.

Yet, my article continues to be declined and now rejected under the grounds of "not being notable". I completely reject the notion that the subject of this article isn't notable given he clearly meets four of the criterium (you need to meet one to be considered notable) under his specific WikiProject and would appreciate if someone would have a look at it. Thanks. ser! (let's discuss it). 10:29, 17 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ser! Even if the person meets the notability criteria, there must still be significant coverage of them in independent reliable sources. The sources you have offered have several issues. several only cite specific information; one is an interview with him, which does not establish notability; one is a very brief review of his music; and so on. Sources must have significant coverage of the subject. 331dot (talk) 11:18, 17 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
331dot I'll continue to have a look at the sources and improve it. Is there any way to allow me to re-submit my article in future? The decision made by the new page patroller to "reject" it has left me unable to re-submit in future and means I cannot attempt to further improve the article, which is incredibly disheartening given it is a subject that with some further sources added would be a "notable" user. ser! I am unsure at this point what is wrong with this article for Texas A&M College of Liberal Arts. I have followed the instructions given to me, and all the information is verifiable. I have done my best to use a design style in the article that the other colleges of Texas A&M University have used on their approved articles.

I would love some guidance if possible. Have a great day! Revlib24 (talk) 13:20, 17 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You haven't shown that this part of the A&M system merits a standalone article; The text also reads as a brochure put out by the university. An article should not merely tell of the existence of the college and its component departments; it should summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage state. 331dot (talk) 14:38, 17 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

21:35:41, 17 September 2020 review of draft by Takuyaevans

Hi! I am, admittedly, trying to create a wiki article about myself, but it was rejected because it doesn't show significant coverage enought to merit an article:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Josh_Evans_(music_producer)

In the body of the wiki article are links to artricles and interviews with Spin Magazine, Variety and Sirius radio etc. Furthermore, there are references in the NYtimes and other music magazines. Do these articles and sources count toward "significant coverage"?

I know it's frowned on to create articles about oneself, but I tried to be as neutral and information and link heavy as I could. There is a self-promotional aspect to it, I suppose, but it also seems like relevant info that would have some small interest to the larger community?

Anyways, not trying to skirt the rules or anything! Just looking for some clarification...

Thanks! Josh

02:36:41, 18 September 2020 review of submission by Someoneelsesomethingelse

I am not sure how to get reliable sources for my draft. When I clicked on the webpage for DC Archive Editions, I saw there weren't any references on that page, but there was a header code that I thought substituted for a citation. Why is my draft not approved and where can I find reliable sources to get the draft improved, if it needs reliable sources? One reviewer said it isn't necessary to be tech-savvy, but I am still unsure how to post content and make reliable pages other than trial and error. Any and all help to make this draft a webpage that can be accessed by new DC Comic fans wanting to find cheap and compacted comics to read would be appreciated. Someoneelsesomethingelse (talk) 02:36, 18 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Someoneelsesomethingelse: Placing {{unreferenced}} at the top is not a replacement. I generally can't tell you how to find reliable sources, as there are many different ways, howewer, I am able to tell you that there are certain sources that have been often discussed. You may want to have a quick lok at that list to ensure you are not using a source regarded as unreliable or deprecated by the community. Victor Schmidt (talk) 16:37, 18 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

19:51:12, 18 September 2020 review of draft by QDE-can

I do not understand the reason why this submission was declined (and reverted to draft after additions were made to correct initial problems).

The original rejection had the comment “Many of the references are to the organization's own website, and thus not WP:INDEPENDENT. The Evening Telegraph article isn't actually about ENFSI. A couple of others are press release coverage.” At that point the rejection may have been valid.

However, it is clear that this is no longer the case. The article presently has 20 references which break down as follows:

  • 5 do come from the ENFSI website
  • 10 are from independent scientific journals
  • 1 is from the Europol website
  • 4 are from news sources

I know that isn't perfect but it's better than many existing WP articles about similar entities. I looked through WP:NORG but it isn’t clear to me what else is required to address the shortcomings for notability. From what I can see the references that have been provided demonstrate significant coverage in multiple, independent, reliable, secondary sources.

For what its worth, I'm not sure that those points apply to this particular page because the subject organization (ENFSI) is a non-profit, as the article notes. As such, the section on non-commercial orgs should apply and that shows different criteria for Notability. As I read it, such organizations are usually notable if they meet both of the following standards:

  1. The scope of their activities is national or international in scale.
  2. The organization has received significant coverage in multiple reliable sources that are independent of the organization.

I think the references clearly show that both of those conditions have been met. But apparently not.

Anyway, I just don't know what else is needed so suggestions would be welcome.

20:42:29, 18 September 2020 review of draft by Mar8aret

This article has been declined due to notability. I have reviewed the guidelines and believe that this decision was made in error. I'm wondering how to appeal.

By way of background, here are my responses the notability guidelines for creative professionals:

1. The person is regarded as an important figure or is widely cited by peers or successors.

See references. Kim's career was covered in national media (LGBTQ Nation)(see reference 1 in draft). Kim has been profiled The Encyclopedia of LGBT History in America published by Thomson/Gale (publisher)(see reference 2) as well as Contemporary Lesbian Writers of the US published by Greenwood Publishing Group. (see reference 3). These are both mainstream publishers.

2. The person is known for originating a significant new concept, theory, or technique.

Kim is a pioneer in that she is widely acknowledged to be the first openly-lesbian Asian American writer to be published in the United States. While it is true that she is obscure, this is very likely a function of being lesbian, Korean American whose creative output is primarily poetry and fiction.

3. The person has created or played a major role in co-creating a significant or well-known work or collective body of work. In addition, such work must have been the primary subject of an independent and notable work (for example, a book, film, or television series, but usually not a single episode of a television series) or of multiple independent periodical articles or reviews.

Her work has been anthologized in collections of Korean American fiction (Beacon Press), Lesbian short fiction (Plume which is an imprint of the Penguin Group and Persephone Press). These anthologies are widely held in academic libraries throughout the US.

4. The person's work (or works) has: (a) become a significant monument, (b) been a substantial part of a significant exhibition, (c) won significant critical attention, or (d) been represented within the permanent collections of several notable galleries or museums.

Kim does not meet this particular criteria mostly because of her status in marginalized communities (as a lesbian, a Korean American on the West Coast 1970s and 1980s). Also, poets are very rarely the topic of significant attention. Furthermore, as an aging women (she is currently in her 70s), her cultural significance has been minimized further. Yet, she has been cited as a literary influence to other writers including Alexander Chee and Merle Woo (see references 9 and 10)

Please tell me how I can publish this page? (talk) 04:12, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Shōten is best. When you were welcomed on your talk page last year, the very first link you were given was to the help page Your first article. That page contains much information that is important for any article you start. Its initial paragraph tells you:

Before starting a new article, please review Wikipedia's notability requirements. In short, the topic of an article must have already been the subject of publication in reliable sources, such as books, newspapers, magazines, peer-reviewed scholarly journals and websites that meet the same requirements as reputable print-based sources. ... if no reliable third-party sources can be found on a topic, then it should not have a separate article.

The draft doesn't cite any sources to show that the topic is notable (suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia). It has external links to her employer/agent (not independent) and to a page on Anime New Network's encyclopedia (which, being user-generated, is not a reliable source). Without several good sources, the page will not be published.
In the past 18 months, you've tried to create about ten articles, but none of them have been successful. You may wish to focus instead on improving existing articles, which is generally easier. If you aren't sure where to start, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Japan. --Worldbruce (talk) 04:59, 19 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
