slice code
Is the .slice(0,1)
code in the "remove autoedit" sample really necessary? I don't think there is likely to be more than one match of #pt-mysandbox a
, so it doesn't seem to do anything... --Yair rand (talk) 21:08, 28 October 2012 (UTC)
- I added that, but I copied it from a discussion. If you can test it and it works without, then please update. ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 02:37, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
Search engine index
Is it correct to say search engines don't find sandboxes? I Googled "Henry Atkinson" Hamilton nz and my sandbox was top of the search with notes I'm putting together for an article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Johnragla (talk • contribs) 23:07, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
- All pages can be indexed unless they include a template like {{User sandbox}}. --— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 00:28, 15 February 2013 (UTC)
Categories
Are categories added to sandbox pages supposed to make the page show up in the actual category lists? That does not sound wise. -- Lightkey (talk) 19:09, 31 July 2016 (UTC)
- That's how the software works. It would be nice to have a way to say that a category should only list articles. Category code on sandboxes and drafts can for example be placed inside
<nowiki>...</nowiki>
or comment tags<!-- ... -->
, or add a colon in front of "Category" to make a link to the category instead of placing the page in the category. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:59, 31 July 2016 (UTC)- Thanks for the quick answer. -- Lightkey (talk) 04:08, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
I don't know HTML, am I still able to edit wikipedia pages ? AADIZPEN (talk) 04:33, 21 October 2017 (UTC)
Isn’t there something to prevent category addition?
- IIRC it was
{{Yourtemplate|nocat=yes}}
JohnSmith13345 (talk) 22:50, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
- @JohnSmith13345: That only works on templates which are coded to recognize
|nocat=yes
or similar (see Wikipedia:Category suppression). Most categories in sandboxes are not added by templates but directly in the page with[[Category:...]]
. {{Draft categories}} is one way to deal with this. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:38, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for explaining that to me. JohnSmith13345 (talk) 23:40, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
How to write Wikipedia Page
Guys I don't know anything about HTML or the function of those symbols on edit page, am I still able to write/edit wikipedia pages? AADIZPEN (talk) 04:49, 21 October 2017 (UTC)
- Hello- I just wanted to say you should probably, uh, learn to write an article if you intend on doing so but editing is pretty straight forward. Applejuiceandpeachh (talk) 06:30, 1 March 2019 (UTC)

Help Deleting a Personal Sandbox Page
So, I can't figure out how to delete a sandbox subpage once I am done with it... I have no further use for it. I've blanked the page contents completely, but it still shows up as existing. What can I do to delete it... On my toolbar in the More tab, all I see is the option to Move the page. I need to just flat out delete it. Any advice is welcome... Thank you. TadgStirkland401 (TadgTalk) 21:55, 16 August 2018 (UTC)
- @TadgStirkland401: Add the magic code {{db-u1}} at the top of the sandbox page, and an admin should turn up to delete it for you. -- John of Reading (talk) 06:17, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- John of Reading Thank you very much. TadgStirkland401 (TadgTalk) 06:24, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
Hiding Sandbox link
I have that li#pt-sandbox { display: none; }
in my Global.css page and it's not working anymore in here. Guessing something has changed, so is that command now something that only works from local.css page? --OneMember (Talk) 13:52, 30 September 2018 (UTC)
- @OneMember: Do you have MonoBook at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-rendering? It appears MonoBook requires
li#pt-sandbox { display: none !important; }
. I have updated the page.[1] PrimeHunter (talk) 11:25, 5 December 2018 (UTC)- Added that !important and now it works perfectly. Thank you PrimeHunter for the information. -OneMember (Talk) 13:15, 5 December 2018 (UTC)
Sourcing information from the living person whom the article is about
I am working on my first article. It is about a member of a band, who does not have a Wikipedia page (the other band members and the band itself already have pages). I also speak to the subject of the article, via messaging a email and in person. Can I use what the person tells me personally as a source? For example, if I ask “where were you born?” and they tell me, would I be able to use this as a source? Carole Basinger (talk) 03:49, 5 December 2018 (UTC)
- @Carole Basinger: Wikipedia:Verifiability requires published sources. You cannot used private knowledge or communication. This is not a general help page. You can ask questions at Wikipedia:Teahouse. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:57, 5 December 2018 (UTC)
Curiosity Killed The Cath
I dont want people to see my sandbox and I dont want it to be.. Idk, anybody's? Basically i dont want pseople stealing/using my article until I submit it for puplishing or whatever. Will these things happen and can I prevent them from happening? Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Applejuiceandpeachh (talk • contribs) 06:27, 1 March 2019 (UTC)
- It would be unprofessional for any editor to interfere with your sandbox unless you ask them for help with it, and I'd be very surprised if anyone steals or uses the contents. There is no way to prevent other editors from seeing your sandbox, but it is not indexed by Google, so they would have to search your editing history to find it. Just make sure that your sandbox does not contain any copyright material, libel or inappropriate material since an administrator could delete it if it contains illegal content. If you have some rival who follows your edits, then you could save the text offline until you are ready to submit it, copying the text to your sandbox and previewing, but never clicking "Publish" until it is complete and ready to submit for review, but that would be an extreme measure and unlikely to be necessary. How to create Sandbox in Lithuanain / or other language wikipedia?
Hi! I also use Lithuanian wikipedia and cant find instructions of Snadbox creation. fivetrees (talk)
- @Fivetrees: The Lithuanian Wikipedia has not installed mw:Extension:SandboxLink which adds a sandbox link to the interface. But you can still create and edit a user sandbox like any other page. You can e.g. enter the wanted name like
User:Fivetrees/sandbox
in the search box and click the resulting link to create the page. See more at Wikipedia:User pages#Creating a subpage. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:13, 31 August 2019 (UTC)
What to do about redirect notice in my sandbox?
There is currently a redirect notice from something I was previously working on in my sandbox but I want to work on a new article in it now. Can I just clear that out and work over it or is there something else that should be done first? -- Carlobunnie (talk) 19:24, 31 August 2019 (UTC)
- Just delete the redirect and start typing your new content. The redirect is not needed if the article has been accepted. Dbfirs 20:14, 31 August 2019 (UTC)
- I've done this for you. Dbfirs 20:21, 31 August 2019 (UTC)

Small SEO Tools Backlink Generator Backlink is a safe and inexpensive way to build excellent authority for your website and improve your position in Google. GENERATE QUALITY BACKLINKS IN JUST A FEW SECONDS! Universally, search engine currently drives the most traffic to websites. It beats social by 300% and also does better than both direct and referral traffic.
The secret to getting a huge number of traffic to your website? Sit atop search engine results pages (SERPs).
But how can you do that?
The answer: BACKLINKS!
Together with quality content, backlinks form the most important factor for ranking high on some search engines, particularly Google.
In other words, if you need traffic, you need search. And to get search, you need backlinks.
And technically, if you joke with building backlinks you're joking with gaining good rankings on Google and other search engines.
But generating high-quality backlinks to your website isn't always the easiest of things to do. In fact, it could be an exacting task requiring a focused expertise to accomplish.
There are literally millions of websites on the Interweb and many more are being created every day. The competition to rank on top of search engines keeps getting stiffer among these websites day after day.
And it doesn't end there: After getting to the first page, you have to fight to stay there as there are usually competitors who constantly desire that position.
Thus, you have to use every legitimate tactic available to you (content, backlinks, etc.) to get to the top of search and remain there.
We understand the importance of backlinks. We also know that it is no easy job to create them. That's why we've created this result-guaranteed, premium-quality backlink generator, Backlink Maker by SmallSEOTools.
INTRODUCING BACKLINK MAKER BY SMALLSEOTOOLS Backlink Maker is the web’s #1 tool for instantly generating quality backlinks to your website.
Built with SEO best practices in mind and in accordance with Google’s recommended link building guidelines, Backlink Maker does a clean job at building free high-value backlinks and bringing you closer to the top of SERPs.
You can generate a huge number of genuine, quality backlinks in a matter of seconds. It's like magic, but it's real.
It doesn't require any effort from your end other than entering your website URL and clicking on a button. The rest of the magic happens automatically, generating scads of backlinks right before your very own eyes while you're sitting there and probably sipping soda :-) WHAT ARE BACKLINKS AND WHY DO THEY MATTER? Backlinks are incoming hyperlinks that point towards your website or blog from other domains on the web.
They are also called inbound links, incoming links, and inlinks.
These links are one of the most important factors for search rankings. The more backlinks you have pointing back to your site, the better your site will perform in SERPs.
How, you'd ask?
In a way, search engines treat backlinks as a kind of recommendation or vote from the sites hosting the links. So if you have backlinks coming from reputable and authority sites, search engines will deem your site to be popular and valuable, thus raising your its rankings.
Put differently, search engines give more credit to websites that have a good number of quality backlinks, and consider those websites more relevant than others in their results pages.
Hence, for online businesses, more links = more search traffic = more customers = revenue.
That's what makes backlinks important: they have a direct correlation with revenue. HOW TO USE BACKLINK MAKER Given Backlink Maker’s undeniable elaborateness and its ability to deliver amazing results, you may think that the tool won't be easy to use. But that's actually the opposite.
Backlink Maker is super-awesome in terms of features and delivery of results, yet it is super-easy to use. In fact, you can use the tool in just about three simple steps:
Step #1: Get on this page (https://smallseotools.cc/backlink-maker) where you are right now.
Step #2: Enter the URL of the website you want to build backlinks for in the space provided.
Step #3: Click on the “Make Backlink” button to perform the magic.
The tool will immediately show you a list of relevant websites and then start generating the backlinks for your site from each of the sites in the list, automatically.
If a backlink is created successfully, you'll see the green ‘tick’ sign; if not, a red ‘x’ sign will appear, all under the “Status” column.
The newly created backlinks may not have immediate impact on your rankings. That's because the changes will take time to take effect on the indexes of search engines. But after some time, your search results will definitely improve.
We do have other relevant tools that can help you further in your backlinking and SEO efforts, including our awesome Backlink Checker, Link Tracker, and Keyword Position Checker tools. Md Nasar Uddin Redoy (talk) 15:38, 25 January 2020 (UTC)
