OS or distribution

Actually, Linux is (from the linked WP article of the same title);

...a Unix-like computer operating system assembled under the model of free and open source software development and distribution. The defining component of Linux is the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released 5 October 1991 by Linus Torvalds...

Under the terms of the appropriate license, the kernel may be modified, if one desires, and packaged with other software (like libraries and utilities which make the software work properly, or better, as the case may be) when appropriate and, if desired, additional application software. The entire package (kernel, libraries, and applications) is called a distribution. As an example, the Fedora 17 (operating system) kernel plus supporting utility libraries plus application software customized for use with the Fedora 17 kernel constitutes the Fedora 17 distribution. Notable plus plus interesting distributions

The section Distributions was copy edited while I re-added Omega and PLS Linux from previous discussion #Listing of derivatives.

fix formatting on the dashes that go after the links and before the description. the will never be needed if it so close to the bullet that it never gets to the other edge of the page.
move the 'distro watch' and 'Fedora wiki' sources (in small print) underneath the distribution bullet so I could put a See also link to List_of_linux_distributions#Fedora-based
Change 'Active' to 'Notable list of Fedora distributions'.

The list should be not only notable, as are the items at the above mentioned List_of_linux_distributions#Fedora-based, but also more interesting than them.

In order to keep the size of the list down, per previous discussion mentioned above, please discuss un-interesting list items for removal.

- Berry Linux – a medium-sized Fedora based distribution that provides support for Japanese and English.
- BLAG Linux and GNU – a stripped down 1-CD Fedora with Debian's APT system.
- Fuduntu – Optimized for netbooks, development headed by Jupiter creator Fewt. ^[1]
- Hanthana Linux – from Sri Lanka
- Linpus – made by Taiwanese company Linpus Technologies for the Asian market.
- MythDora – based around MythTV's media center capabilities.
- Ojuba Linux – an Arabic Linux distribution.
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux – enterprise Linux offering from Red Hat, which branches from the current Fedora baseline.
- Omega Linux – remix with full multimedia support ^[2]
- Russian Fedora Remix – version of Fedora, adapted for Russia. Contains proprietary drivers and software.
- PLS Linux – high client-server-performance version issued by the Government of Venezuela.^[3]
- Xange – (formerly Simplis and Vixta) is an easy-to-use, Fedora-based desktop Linux distribution featuring the KDE desktop.
- Moblin – a distribution mainly for MIDs, netbooks and embedded devices

First up, this article is really short. It is around a sixth of the size of the Debian and Ubuntu articles, which suggests that there is a lot of detail not present here. There is no section on hardware requirements or the development process, and details about kernels and packages are left out. The GAC don't require it to be too long, but without significantly more detail I wouldn't pass it. Sorry. James^x12345 22:03, 6 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Tizen fedora based?

I agree; this is in error. My best guess is that this crept in through the "Fedora Family Tree" graphic, because it shows Tizen descending from MeeGo (it is a successor but not really a direct descendant) and MeeGo from Moblin, which was Fedora-based. (Really, I think maybe that graphic should go; among other things, I assume that it has RHEL off on an earlier branch altogether, but given the enormity of that interelationship it seems silly to have a family tree graph without RHEL or CentOS, Scientific Linux, etc.)

Multiple version numbers in the infobox?

There is currently a discussion of whether Template:Infobox OS should be used with multiple version numbers - for example, to list both a "software update" and "next major release" beta, or to list betas from more than one release stream. If you believe that multiple {stable, preview} releases should never appear in that infobox, or if you believe that they should appear under some or all circumstances where there's more than one beta of the OS in question available, you might want to comment there. (I have no strong belief either way; I'm OK with the main OS page listing only the "next major release" beta, but listing betas from multiple streams if they exist, but I'd also be OK with other choices.) This template must be followed by a complete and specific description of the request, that is, specify what text should be removed and a verbatim copy of the text that should replace it. The edit may be made by any autoconfirmed user. Remember to change the |answered=no parameter to "yes" when the request has been accepted, rejected or on hold awaiting user input. This is so that inactive or completed requests don't needlessly fill up the edit requests category. You may also wish to use the {{ESp}} template in the response. To request that a page be protected or unprotected, make a protection request.

The November 2016 issue of Linux Magazine has an article http://www.linux-magazine.com/Issues/2016/192/The-World-According-to-Linus in which Linus Torvalds explains why he uses Fedora (including setting it up for his family). This could augment or replace the earlier references.
