Graphs for super-heavy atoms

Partially done--R8R Gtrs (talk) 19:00, 12 August 2012 (UTC) http://cdsweb.cern.ch/record/846779/files/CM-P00055435.pdf[reply]

Request: So there's this PDF. I would love you to extract three images from there: both images from p.8 (internal numeration) and the uppermost right graph from p.10. (SVG please)

First two tables, please upload separately. Also, change the color scheme to a multi-colored (red for the shorted-lived, then yellow, green, and blue for the most long-lived, as corresponds to white, gray, darker gray, and black in the original). Black-and-white is hard to read. Esp. this, of such poor quality.

For the graph (please don't forget to label the x- and y- axis accordingly!), please draw it wide (wider than now), so that neighboring bots are easier to distinguish. Would love to get the labels allowing more close determination of the values: try a diff of 5 in the x-axis (160...165...170 instead of 160...180...200) and of 3 in the y-axis (-3...0...3, not -10...0...10). The image would then need some further work, but I'll post it as a different request.

Would also love to have them pretty hi-res. Please also change the fonts (Arial is maybe fine), and with the other changes described the copyright securities won't hurt us.

And lastly: Even though the request is time-taking, the benefits are great. A worthy thing. The first two may get a two-digit (maybe?) transclusion number. Thanks you very very much in advance.--R8R Gtrs (talk) 10:57, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s): Um R8R Gtrs, I don't have access to Inkscape now, so I can't take this one. But anyway, I tried to hunt down a better file which is truly PDF(without raster images). The one which you provided looks like a photocopy so there must have been an original somewhere. A google search turned up [1]. This file is perfect for extraction and already contains some colouring(though not like what you want). Check if the colouring is OK and post here. This file should be a good starting point... Roshan (talk) 13:00, 28 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey yeah, maybe, the point is the link you've provided doesn't give a PDF even after logging in (individual, no opportunity for institutional). I only got this raster version on web (and a copy). Hope you understand. Is someone to help with the images please?--R8R Gtrs (talk) 18:29, 31 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Guys sorry for not checking the link that I provided. You DONOT need an account to access the PDF as is implied by the page that opens. In the address bar, simply remove the part after .pdf (%7this in my browser) and the PDF pops out. Sorry again :) Roshan (talk) 10:47, 1 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

forget what I said above. R8R Gtrs couldn't access it even then. If anybody is interested, I can mail the PDF to him/her. Roshan (talk) 19:36, 1 August 2012 (UTC).[reply]

I'll do it... got inkscape... Roshan (talk) 07:40, 3 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks man, in advance--R8R Gtrs (talk) 13:37, 3 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Man... thank you a lot! It's just... I need another image, see above. But many thanks for this one!--R8R Gtrs (talk) 19:00, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Half-life graph

Request: It's my second Inkscape day, sorry

Now, I need to get rid of the black squares and have the pic cropped (don't yet get it how to fix it, Google turned unhelpful, or it's just me, though).

Then, I would love to have two dots (corresponding to the neutron number of 176 and 177) marked say, red, and labeled 293Uus and 294Uus, correspondingly.

And I would love to get a few horizontal lines (I'm imagining it as colored lines made of dots (...........), probably dark (violet, dark green, deep blue, etc., want them all different) but of non-100% color fill, so that the black lines are seen through them) for the corresponding y-axis (Predicted half-lives values) values, with corresponding labels (located not near the axis, rather just above the line on the left side:

  • half-life value 0 (label "1 second")
  • 4.93 ("1 day")
  • 7.50 ("1 year")
  • 15.40 ("half-life of 244Pu")

Thank you very much--R8R Gtrs (talk) 17:17, 24 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OK? Note: in the vertical axis caption, I have edited that into "half-life". -DePiep (talk) 21:30, 30 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome! I think however, I could ask for a few further things, if you don't mind. They'll be minor. I didn't think originally I could use another line, but now I think so (17.16, age of the Earth). If the font's too big for that, I'd be fine with lowering the size or removing the superscript (plutonium-244). Should be no problem, I want it screen-wide, so will be seen if even gets twofold lessened. Also, think I want smaller labels for the created isotopes. They're just an eye-attracting thing, want them more a smaller note.
Real cool otherwise, though. Am putting it into the article. Thank you very much!--R8R Gtrs (talk) 17:00, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
So this one you can use in an article. Good. Improvements later on. btw, for me it was my third day inkscape. -DePiep (talk) 21:41, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, there's no need to hurry. Again, thanks for the done and for that you'll do. (You're doing great so far, way better than me! Can you write me sometime to tell how exactly you did the cut and removed the blocks?)--R8R Gtrs (talk) 22:04, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The black blocks were somehow a larger text block (so the vertical axis text an dtwo horizontal axis texts). They were out of reach from regular (inkscape) tools. I only could move them out of page lines (menu like: File | FileProps | Set page outline). Then I retyped all text into a new txt edit block (so 3 or 4 times). The original text blocks I 1. moved out of page and 2. deleted wholly. Must say, I could not get to their essence. They only showed up here in wp and in GIMP 2. -DePiep (talk) 00:10, 1 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'll remove the red boxes. About the vertical axis caption: Decimal logarithm of total half-life values, seconds. 1. "total" has a meaning? 2. Why not Total half-life (seconds, decimal logarithm) - sounds a bit more scientific to me. You know: dimension first, unit is secondary. -DePiep (talk) 08:32, 1 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Done. The red labels are a bit darker now. Note: the colored lines are added not metrically, but positioned by the eye. -DePiep (talk) 12:54, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Think I get it:) the axis caption is close to what it was in the original document. It makes no difference to me, though, I am fine with any. Thanks for all of your amazing work!--R8R Gtrs (talk) 16:14, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Must say, a nice graphic it is and your requests were crips & clear. -DePiep (talk) 16:25, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
