Rice cereal is a common baby food product in the United States.

In stores

The primary ingredient of all rice cereal is rice.

Most[citation needed] commercially available rice cereals in the US contain extracted ingredients that a naturally breastfed baby may find to be a shock to the system[citation needed], such as soy oil, lecithin,[1] but which a baby served baby formula will have gotten used to.[citation needed] When selecting a rice cereal for a breastfed baby, it is important to read the ingredients list to avoid these industry-extracted additives.[citation needed]

Manufacture at home

Rice cereal can also be made in the home. Place 1 cup of brown rice and 4 ounces of breast milk or water into a blender and puree it until completely smooth. Boil if using water. This mixture can then be frozen and stored for over a month, until needed, or served by mixing in additional breast milk or boiled water until the texture is both smooth and easy to serve.
