German building and structure stubs by state

As we have templates for half of Germany's sixteen states, and categories for seven of those eight, it seems worthwhile to look at the other eight states. CatScan searches on articles already stub-tagged and other small articles gives the following results:

I propose templates for them all, and categories if they exceed 60 threshold. SeveroTC 06:41, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

Support I can also try to ensure the others get over 60.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:27, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

There's quite a few undercategorized articles here: I've just been going through Category:German sports venue stubs and found over 100 with no location category so I wouldn't be surprised if we have a similar situation for other building types. SeveroTC 13:01, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

Queensland geography stubs

This category has 833 entries. I propose the creation of Category:Queensland airport stubs which has 50 articles tagged as stubs, Category:Queensland river stubs which currently has 46 rivers and 10 creeks tagged as stubs and at least 35 river articles remaining to be created, Category:Queensland dam stubs which would have 26 dams, 2 weirs and 9 lakes tagged with a stub template as well as with many weir articles remaining to created and finally islands Category:Queensland island stubs which has 52 islands and 2 islets currently marked as stubs. This would reduce the Category:Queensland geography stubs by one quarter. - Shiftchange (talk) 04:12, 21 September 2011 (UTC)

I thjink that maybe we should create an Category:Ornithischian stubs category, populated mostly by upmerged templates for the major groups of Ornithischian dinosaurs - {{ceratopsian-stub}} has 28, {{pachycephalosaur-stub}} has 9, {{ornithopod-stub}} has 56, {{ankylosaur-stub}} has 23, and {{stegosaur-stub}} has 11, which brings us up to 127.We could also create an {{ornithischian-stub}}, to catch the other 19 (bring the stub articles up to a total of 146.

Additionally (or in stead), we could create an Category:Dinosaur ichnogenus stubs/{{dinosaur-ichnogenus-stub}}, to handle all the 97 stubs about dinosaur trace fossils. (while we currently don't have an {{ichnogenus-stub}}, we could have one of those, too.)

Any opinions about either or both of these proposals? עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 17:20, 19 September 2011 (UTC)

Chinese provincial templates

Lost count of how many times I added one of these to an article and seen them red linked. China is a massive country and perfectly reasonable to have templates on provinces and their buildings. If needs be a stub count can be done and I can try to make each province viable for separate structure categories too.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:33, 17 September 2011 (UTC)

German building and structure stubs

There is undersorting in Category:German railway station stubs and prior to sorting, the following seem worthwhile (with estimates on usage based on current transclusions of asbox and categories iff 60):

Of these, all except Brandenburg and Lower Saxony have structure stub categories. There should be enough here for new Brandenburg and Lower Saxony categories:

There are over 100 articles on books about people from the U.S., and Category:Biography book stubs is 5+ pages (814 articles). The permcat is subdivided by nationality, subject, or occupation, and I think nationality is the most clear-cut way to break up the stubs as well. Pegship (talk) 23:16, 15 September 2011 (UTC)

New sports categories

Speedy request:

Dawynn (talk) 14:59, 15 September 2011 (UTC)

As discussed quite recently, the USSR one would make Category:Soviet sport stubs very undersized. It may be worth deleted Category:Soviet sport stubs, upmerging it to Category:Soviet Union stubs and creating Category:Soviet football competition stubs. SeveroTC 06:02, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
How would it be undersized? Category:Soviet sport stubs would still be a parent category for Category:Soviet sportspeople stubs and Category:Soviet football competition stubs. Parent categories with valid child(ren) categories are not undersized. Dawynn (talk) 11:32, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
Not everyone agrees there - most people don't worry so much about a strict 60 threshold, but this split would reduce Category:Soviet sport stubs to around 10 articles, which is, in my opinion, too small when there is only a single subcat. SeveroTC 11:49, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
But, on the other hand, I think we can get Category:Soviet sport stubs up to something respectable anyway. SeveroTC 12:06, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
There's now 22 articles tagged with {{USSR-sport-stub}} which I think is just about enough with two subcats. The permcat is Category:Defunct football competitions in the Soviet Union, by the way. SeveroTC 16:09, 21 September 2011 (UTC)

Changes to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

The German region of M-V has been reorganised into new districts as of the beginning of this month - this will require a reorganisation of the stubs, with the 18 old districts now combined into eight new districts. Looks like one or two will remain very similar (Rostock is still Rostock, Schwerin is still Schwerin, and Nordwestmecklenberg is still there, too), though even then the boundaries may have altered. We will at the very least need five new templates, and almost certainly five new categories, and can slowly change the current stub types over to them:

Grutness...wha? 00:20, 6 September 2011 (UTC)

Make that {{MecklenburgischeSeenplatte-geo-stub}} please. Most of the changes are pretty straightforward (complete districts merging into a new district), except Category:Demmin geography stubs, which will have to be divided over Category:Mecklenburgische Seenplatte (district) geography stubs and Category:Vorpommern-Greifswald geography stubs. I think this applies to 10-15 articles, I can do that manually once the categories and the templates have been created. Note that currently some of the district-specific stub templates categorize into the state category Category:Mecklenburg-Vorpommern geography stubs. If you need more info, let me know. Markussep Talk 08:25, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
Oopos - yes, missed an "e" - thanks for spotting that. If it's a simple case of whole districts moving to new names, we can simply redirect the old templates to the new ones, so it should be a fairly simple task. Grutness...wha? 01:11, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

An estimate of how populous the new categories will be:
What's the procedure here, is it OK to create the templates already, and let them point to the main category for the time being? Markussep Talk 16:22, 7 September 2011 (UTC)
I think these are pretty uncontroversial changes, so we might as well go ahead and make them. All the categories are going to be well past the threshold of 60 stubs as well. I'll start making the new templates/categories and once that's done propose deletion of the old ones at SFD. I'm also making a redirect at {{RostockDistrict-geo-stub}}, since the term "Landkreis" isn't used in the English WP article name. Grutness...wha? 01:01, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
What about the remaining upmerged templates - {{Neubrandenburg-geo-stub}}, {{Greifswald-geo-stub}}, and {{Stralsund-geo-stub}}? Where do they go - or do they stay in the main stub category? Grutness...wha? 07:13, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
Ah - don't worry - I checked the articles and see that Neubrandenburg is in Mecklenburgische Seenplatte, Griefswald is (not surprisingly) in Vorpommern-Greifswald, and Stralsund is in Vorpommern-Rügen. Grutness...wha? 07:36, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
correct! Markussep Talk 07:37, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
:) OK, the new templates and categories are all made - now it's simply a case of tidying up Demmim and seeing whether many (or any) of the ones left in the main category should have the more precise district/city stub templates. The articles should slowly transfer over to the new category (depending on the length of the server queues etc)... then once the old categories are empty they can go to WP:SFD. Grutness...wha? 07:49, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
Thanks! I've emptied Category:Demmin geography stubs, and {{Demmin-geo-stub}} is unused now. It looks like most of the articles in Category:Mecklenburg-Vorpommern geography stubs now are lakes (there are many in MV ;-)), I'll go through the other articles. Markussep Talk 09:25, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
True - and annoyingly a lot of them simply say "a lake in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern" (which I'm finally learning to spell without looking it up ;) some of them are fairly clear as to which district(s) they're in, though, so it'll still cut down a little. I'm surprised just how few of the stubs are in the two cities. Grutness...wha? 00:38, 9 September 2011 (UTC)

National/continental transport(ation) stubs

I think we should have continent- and country-level transport stub tags, as well as categories where there are at least 60 stubs (named either "transport" or "transportation", based on the national trnasport(ation) permcat name). עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 10:23, 5 September 2011 (UTC)

This was on my mental to-do list so I support (with all stub tags at -transport- and categories based on the permcats). There's a lot of things categorised by county below which would bring them all together. SeveroTC 19:48, 5 September 2011 (UTC)
I'd suggest, for the sake of consistency, that the template is at -transport- in each case, but with redirects at -transportation- for all of them. That way, no matter which term an editor is more used to, they'll be able to find the template. Grutness...wha? 00:08, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
