Proposals, April 2010

Please check how many articles qualify for a stub type before proposing it.

If (after approval) you create a stub type, please be sure to add it to the list of stub types. This page will be archived in its entirety once all discussions have been closed; there is no need to move them to another page.

various splits of Category:Scientist stubs

Oversized. Split by decade: {{US-voice-actor-1900s-stub}} {{US-voice-actor-1910s-stub}} {{US-voice-actor-1920s-stub}} {{US-voice-actor-1930s-stub}} {{US-voice-actor-1940s-stub}} {{US-voice-actor-1950s-stub}} {{US-voice-actor-1960s-stub}} {{US-voice-actor-1970s-stub}} {{US-voice-actor-1980s-stub}} {{US-voice-actor-1990s-stub}} And where appropriate, categories. support (though generally stub sorters use 800 for whether a cat is oversized.) you may also want to check the two stub parents for that one as I'm sure I've sorted some articles that should be in there to both the parents. Waacstats (talk) 22:13, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

I'd like to go ahead and create these before the normal five day window, even though this isn't technically a speedy. I'm going to be very busy next week and would like to get to this. We're already almost to 3 days and there's 2 supports. I'll probably start creating them this evening. Any objections? Gosox(55)(55) 16:45, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
Speedy support under criterion S2 above as all other US-bar-actor-stub have been split this way. Waacstats (talk) 16:37, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

This is a proposed category name for template {{atari-console-stub}}. This template is easily meeting the 60-article limit. I've looked, and there's a lot more articles that could also be added. Dawynn (talk) 14:03, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

I assume these are the templates categories. Waacstats (talk) 22:04, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

Yep, That looks good. Dr. Blofeld White cat 09:25, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

Support all templates, categories for those that reach 60. Waacstats (talk) 22:10, 21 April 2010 (UTC)
Support ditto Waacstats. --Rosiestep (talk) 02:51, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

We have a sudden influx of Iranian dam stubs. Not sure if there are 60 yet but I think a template is needed. Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:15, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

Might go ahead and create the category, too - I think we're at sixty. (There were 42 when I worked on 'em the other night, and I know we've had quite a few since.) Support both or either, as the case may be. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 13:34, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
Support template, category if there are 60, given who is involved I'm sure we will have 60. Waacstats (talk) 15:58, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
We do - check out Category:Dams in Iran. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:26, 21 April 2010 (UTC)

New template: {{beatemup-stub}}. Main category: Category:Beat 'em ups. Main article: Beat 'em ups. Correlation scan between Category:Beat 'em ups and Category:Video game stubs (and subcategories) shows 81 articles. Dawynn (talk) 15:28, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

NO problem with the idea but would {{Beatemup-videogame-stub}} be more obvoius choice. Waacstats (talk) 15:55, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

Couple new templates / categories for this area.

That should about do it for groups that are even approaching a reasonable size. Dawynn (talk) 10:41, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

Couple more Sports video game categories

I'd like to build a couple more sports categories. This is in recognition of the number of Olymipic games, and similar games out there. Often these games have a number of mini-games, allowing the person to play either just one sport or a wide range of sports. Decathalon, X-Games, California Games would also fall into these categories.

(Not sure why no Summer sports main category. California Games isn't exactly an Olympic game series, but its definitely "Summer sports")

I can't think of any packages that try to lump both seasons into a single game package. I'm sure such things are few and far between. Dawynn (talk) 15:03, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

Quickly approaching 60 articles. {{board-videogame-stub}}. Main category: Category:Video board games. Dawynn (talk) 13:30, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

More video game stubs

I'd like to create the following stub categories to help break down some of the various video game genre categories:

These will first be upmerge templates, eventually made into subcategories, once article counts allow. Dawynn (talk) 10:36, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

Support templates, categories if/when they get to 60. Waacstats (talk) 12:32, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
Correction. Main article and main category for Action-adventure is hyphenated. Going to use Category:Action-adventure video game stubs Dawynn (talk) 10:25, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

I would like to break this category down a bit further with the following templates and potential categories:

These will first be upmerge templates for category Category:Sports video game stubs, eventually made into subcategories, once article counts allow. Dawynn (talk) 01:45, 12 April 2010 (UTC)

Further split of Category:Conidae stubs

The following should help in cutting down the above oversized category

Waacstats (talk) 20:57, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

the following are all viable

Waacstats (talk) 20:57, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

Proposed new template: {{zenimax-stub}}

This would be a stub category for ZeniMax Media and its subsidiaries. This would help circumvent problems with underpopulated categories for the subsidiaries, also. Notably, templates for {{BethesdaSoftworks-stub}} and {{idSoftware-stub}} could be upmerged to this new template. I think between the three templates (two existing underpopulated, plus the new) there should be enough to justify the new parent category. Dawynn (talk) 02:03, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

Looks like a good idea no problems here. Waacstats (talk) 08:41, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

I'd like to add two new upmerge templates to this category.

Note that templates already exists for Europe and Asia, as well as individual country templates for USA, UK and Japan. Dawynn (talk) 18:07, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

No problem with upmerged templates. Waacstats (talk) 08:41, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

Currently, the Category:Electronics stubs is a top-level stub category and is oversized. A good part of its contents can be up-merged to the parent Category:Electricity stubs, which does not exist yet, but would be a fine top-level category (or a subcat of Category:Physics stubs). I have already re-stubbed several of the misplaced electronics stubs: please take a look at {{Electric-stub}} and Special:Whatlinkshere/Template:Electric-stub. Note that Electronics is just a subset of Electrical engineering, and that marking some articles with "electronics stub" template is rather illogical.

In the end of the day, the scheme should look like:

(Electronics stubs could be further catagorized by {{Consumer-electronics-stub}} but let's do it one step at at time). No such user (talk) 14:49, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

This seems a reasonable way to go about tidying up this area. Waacstats (talk) 08:48, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
IMHO, creating a category at this level is already justified. If we declare "Electronics" as a sub-category of "Electricity", then we already have the needed 60 articles by virtue of the subcategory. Dawynn (talk) 19:43, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

Massivley oversized, mainly due to large numbers of main belt asteroids that need moving but could also be cut down slightly by the following

won't cut it down on it's own but I am sorting large numbers out of it. Waacstats (talk) 20:25, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

Oversized, already have by county upmerged templates and the following tempalte has past 70 so propose it has it's own category.

and if anyone knows of any useful regions for the other 60+ counties. Waacstats (talk) 14:32, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

oversized, uses upmerged templates by county but suggest using 'regions' to breakthisdown a bit

for starters. Waacstats (talk) 00:58, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

this one is only' slightly oversized. I propose the following splits

should easily cut it down. Waacstats (talk) 13:23, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

Yet another oversized stub cat I propose teh following subcats

that should keep everything below 800 easily. Waacstats (talk) 13:18, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

another oversized categroy I propose the following

should get close to 70 articles. Waacstats (talk) 13:07, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

Another overized cat I propose the following splits

should de oversize this one. Waacstats (talk) 13:03, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

over 1100 articles, propose the following

should be a good start. Waacstats (talk) 12:53, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

another slightly oversized (5000+) the following should be viable

Woin't cut it down much but it's a start. Waacstats (talk) 12:47, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

slightly oversized I propose the following splits

Don't think this will get it down to below 800 but would be a good start. Waacstats (talk) 12:28, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

There would be a good start to verify its existence firstly next time. Cyclostrematidae is a synonym. Others are OK. --Snek01 (talk) 20:04, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

to Waacstats: Also it is quite useless and misleading categorize such articles without knowledge about the theme. Taxonomy of them can, and in some cases often is changing quite often. Then recategorizing became necessary and categorizing of stubs make additional work. Next time categorize only those ones, that you are familiar with (if there are such gastropods). --Snek01 (talk) 22:26, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

another oversized category. propose the following genus' be split from the main stub cat

this should de oversize it. Waacstats (talk) 12:11, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

This over stubbed splitting is against the goal Wikipedia:WikiProject_Stub_sorting#Project_goals number five: "Ensure that any new stub categories and templates are reasonable, usable, and useful." All other criteria are OK, but there is not usefulness of this. But it is already done... Next time stub sorting of gastropods into families is enough. --Snek01 (talk) 20:13, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
