An HTTP accelerator is a server-side program that compresses certain types of files before being sent to a user's computer[1]. According to some, HTTP acceleration can speed up access times for certain files by up to 90%. According to Frederick Townes, many website hosts do not support HTTP acceleration in order to increase their clients' usage - and thus their revenue.[1]
