Jewish Encyclopedia

If you are coming to tell me i violated copyright laws concerning Jewishencyclopedia.com then please read what Jewishencyclopedia.com says it says the following "This website contains the complete contents of the 12-volume Jewish Encyclopedia, which was originally published between 1901-1906. The Jewish Encyclopedia, which recently became part of the public domain, contains over 15,000 articles and illustrations. This online version contains the unedited contents of the original encyclopedia. Since the original work was completed almost 100 years ago, it does not cover a significant portion of modern Jewish History (e.g., the creation of Israel, the Holocaust, etc.). However, it does contain an incredible amount of information that is remarkably relevant today."

Input with Saudi Arabian Jewish history

Hi Java, hope all goes well. Maybe you can help improve the History of the Jews in Saudi Arabia article. It links to smaller articles about Jewish tribes in the areas of present-day Saudi Arabia, such as Banu Awf, Banu Harith, Banu Jusham, Banu Najjar, Banu Sa'ida, Banu Shutayba and they all cited sources. Now User:Bless sins is requesting "sources" for the same information about the tribes in the History of the Jews in Saudi Arabia article, as well as making other requests for sources and whatnot. (If you like, and have a minute or two, see the discussions that have been taking place at Category talk:Jewish Saudi Arabian history.) Please help out in the History of the Jews in Saudi Arabia article. Thanks, IZAK (talk) 14:35, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Review:Aaron

Hi, Unfortunately the article has some problems. Most of the sources are primary. The primary sources are good for clarification but there should be some reliable sources for verification. Also there isn't enough information about Aaron in Islamic sources. You can use this to complete it. I would write a complete review if I had time. But I advise you to renominate it after solving these problems. God bless you.--Seyyed(t-c) 10:56, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Idea for Talmud articles

Hi Java7837: I am reposting the following request from User Sh76us (talk · contribs) on my user talk page for wider notification:

I was thinking of trying to stimulate development of a series of articles on Gemara concepts and doctrines, maybe to help children or newcomers to Gemara with explanations of some fundamental concepts that recur throughout the Gemara. Some examples might be articles on Yiush, Chazakah, Ta'aninun (as in "Ta'aninun L'Yoresh"), Eidim Zomemin (forgive my awful transliterations), Migu, etc., etc. Maybe we could even create a category or subcategory for it. I created Breira in this vein. As I don't have the experience or expertise in Wikipedia to know what to do to best develop this idea, I figured I'd come to you for your opinions on: (1) whether it's a good idea; and (2) How to best go about implementing it. Thanks Sh76us (talk) 15:56, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Updating the barnstar template

Hi Java: I have now put the basic original Jewishbarnstar template you created into Wikipedia:Barnstars/Category and it now joins the list of all Wikipedia:Barnstars. However, to keep in line with the word formatting of all the other barnstars I had to use your old one to start a new The Jewish Barnstar template. I gave you full credit, as did User:Yahel Guhan when he had placed it into Wikipedia:WikiProject Judaism. Please make sure the older template is no longer used. Thanks, IZAK (talk)

 • Very important: From now on, please only use the template this way to grant the Jewish barnstar: (the "subst:" is crucial). Thanks a lot! IZAK (talk) 14:56, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Thanks for helping with the vandalism problem. I'm open to suggestions, if you have any. Right now the options are to 1) survive edit warring, 2) give up and allow the vandalism to stick, or 3) create waste of space articles for people like Abraham the Monk who ARE notable, but only because they converted. Is there a fourth option? I don't feel like edit warring, I don't have time to research a book's worth of bio information right now, and I don't think it's good stewardship of Wiki server space to create 30 bio pages for people who are only notable BECAUSE of their conversion to Judaism when 1 subsection of a page is sufficient.Tim (talk) 10:56, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. Only problem is that some of these people are only documented in books. I'd like to minimize the amount of money we'll have to shelve out on research.Tim (talk) 14:34, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

PS -- I also noticed the anti-Jewish slant. He/She is requiring each person have separate articles, and trying to delete those articles at the same time.Tim (talk) 14:35, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ah yes. People who apply precedents used at all other articles to Jewish-related articles must be anti-Jewish. Divamia (talk) 15:08, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

J, after reading through all of the notability guidelines, the clergy who convert definitely merit an article on that basis alone. Although I personally prefer one line to an article, Wikipedia seems to have lower standards than I would for brevity -- probably because they are a computer based resource and my instincts are still driven by old time "book" size contraints. Accordingly, I'll start adding the articles. I've saved a link to the older edit of the page so I won't lose those names. Also, I'll help you keep the page current so that other people will know which names to research. The next question is, how can we get some help? I don't have all of these books, and although I may actually get them, I don't have the time or the money to buy and read them all right now. But I'm certainly willing to play a part.Tim (talk) 15:23, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Convert and Baal Teshuvah Biography Project -- how's that?Tim (talk) 15:43, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Asher Wade

The article's length meets the minimum criteria, but I still think it's a bit short for DYK. Also, there's only one in-line citation in the article. Could you possibly expand the article and use more in-line citations? Nishkid64 (talk) 20:33, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm...I guess it's fine for DYK. I would accept it for DYK, but I'm not sure what others may think. However, I think the article's expired now, so it can't be featured on DYK. Nishkid64 (talk) 03:38, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Maimonides orthodox?

I'm really not sure why you put the Rambam in the Sephardi Orthodox rabbis category. Orthodoxy as a movement did not exist before the 19th century, and I can imagine that many people thought of him as rather unorthodox in his day! JFW | T@lk 18:13, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Could you urgently clarify why you are separating ALL rabbis, even before the 19th century, into Orthodox categories. JFW | T@lk 18:19, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
In response to your message on my talkpage: the term "Orthodox" was not used before the 19th century. Before that time, it was just "Judaism" because no other term was applied to it. There was Karaism, and Sadduceism, and other branches that left the mainstream - but they did not apply the term "Orthodox" to the mainsteam either. Incidentally, Hirsch doesn't seem to have had problems with the term "Orthodox", so I cannot see why you think the term was purely derogatory.
My point about Maimonides is that in his day, many regarded him as deviating from the mainstream. Why else would they have burnt copies of his work?
I think your use of "Orthodox" for pre-19th century rabbis is a form of POV. I also think we need to discuss on WT:JEW whether you should continue categorising pre-19th century rabbis as "Orthodox". JFW | T@lk 09:12, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with JFW, as requested below, Java7837 please join the unfolding discussions at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Judaism#Orthodox rabbis. This is very important. Thanks a lot. IZAK (talk) 10:20, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New category additions on Breslov rabbi pages

Hi, I saw your category additions to Michel Dorfman and Eliyahu Chaim Rosen and was wondering why they're both not under "Hasidic rabbis in Israel"? Rosen was a teacher and role model who certainly fits this category description, which you added him to, but Dorfman, an honorary rosh yeshiva (more like an administrator) for the Breslov yeshiva in Jerusalem, is known as the quintessential Breslover chassid. I don't think he belongs in a catch-all category like "Israeli Orthodox rabbis." Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 21:27, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the quick editing work. But what's this new category, "Russian Orthodox rabbis"? Sounds like an oxymoron. And why is Michel Dorfman the only name in the category? He wasn't a rabbi in Russia. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 21:54, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
A Russian rabbi can mean a rabbi in russia or rabbi who's ancestors were from Russia--Java7837 (talk) 21:56, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, but Dorfman wasn't a rabbi — he was a shochet and a bookbinder. He was an honorary rosh yeshiva (read: administrator). He is not notable enough to have a category just for him! Yoninah (talk) 22:37, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Discussions about your rabbis categorizations

Hi Java: Please join the discussions about your new "Orthodox rabbis" categorizations at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Judaism#Orthodox rabbis so that you can explain your moves and discuss it with others who have some concerns about it. Thanks a lot! Shabbat Shalom! IZAK (talk) 10:17, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

orthodox

You are adding the category Orthodox to people who eat non-kosher and do not keep the Sabbath. Just because someone is respectful of the tradition does not make them Orthodox, nor do people who grew up orthodox and then become famous necessarily still keep Kosher and sabbath. I do not want to discuss this on the individual pages of the people or be a witch hunt of observance, but many of the people that you added Orthodox to their bios are not observant at all. --Jayrav (talk) 04:20, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agnon was Orthodox until age 25 and then stopped for a few years and returned to his original practice by 32. He was only non-observant between 1913-1920. Not exactly a BT, he was only non-religious between schooling and marriage. He retained his Orthodox and Rabbinic connections throughout. The article had originally, mistakenly placed his return in the 1950's, but he was raised orthodox and married orthodox by 1920. --Jayrav16:49, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There are several known gedolim who sowed wild oats in their youth during the difficult years of WWI and Turkish Palestine, but that does not make them BT's.--Jayrav (talk) 16:49, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jewish Renewal

The name of the movement is "Jewish Renewal" - there is no such thing as "american renewal" - Jewish in the name of the movement is not an adj like Jewish reform or Jewish orthodox. The very name of the movement is "Jewish renewal". It would be nice if you switched those back. --Jayrav (talk) 04:20, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on American Jewish Renewal rabbis requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, "See also" section, book reference, category tag, template tag, interwiki link, rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Orthodox rabbis

Hi Java: I see that the issue of how to create, name and organize rabbis and Orthodox rabbis articles is causing friction. Hello there. I noticed your little template thing on someone's user page (having the USA flag in the top left), and set about creating my own one for Ireland. Anyway, it turns out you had it too far over, it was -180, but it should only have been -155 (you were clipping out 25 pixels). The top was -40, but should have been -36. I changed both the values so I think it fits a bit more snugly into the corner now. Hope that's all ok =) Fin© 17:32, 15 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

From the Editors

As I'm sure you noticed above, this is the 20th edition of the WikiProject Professional wrestling newsletter! It has come a long way since the first issue, and I'm sure it will only improve from here. I'd like to thank everyone reading this for continuing to read the newsletter, biweekly.

I'd like to especially thank those who have helped to get the newsletter to it's 20th edition; The Hybrid, The Chronic, TJ Spyke, Alex Roggio, LAX, ThinkBlue, Nikki311, GaryColemanFan, Gavyn Sykes, D.M.N., Naha, NiciVampireHeart, SRX, Zenlax and, RkOrton.

Also, lastly I'd like to thank Misza13, for sending the newsletter out for us, though his bot. His bot has to be the most important part of the process, because without it, the newsletter would not get sent to project members.

I know that's a long list, but they all deserve recognition for their hard work towards the newsletter. So again, thank you to that list of people, and thank you to all of the newsletter's biweekly readers. If you have an questions, comments, or feedback about the newsletter, remember those links below.

Is there any particular reason you deleted the Sourcewatch links on these two articles? --Eastlaw (talk) 00:01, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, fair enough, but that doesn't mean that all links to Sourcewatch must be removed. Yes, it is unquestionably biased toward the Left, but it often has some inside information about certain companies and law firms, which can occasionally be useful. I have been writing a lot of late about law firms, and I occasionally use Sourcewatch as one source to find out what political connections a firm may have. --Eastlaw (talk) 21:54, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WP:MOTD needs your help!

You're listed as one of our contributors, but recent inactivity in the project has led us to be rather short on mottos. Currently, the schedule only has mottos up to August 12th, and that's only because I just spent half an hour or so filling them in! In order to make sure the project doesn't fold in, we need your help coming up with ideas for new mottos, commenting on active proposals, closing finished submissions, and your input on a new proposal to re-use some of our older mottos when we run out of new ones. Hundreds of editors see our mottos every day; if you can, please take some time out of your normal editing and drop by to help the project out. Thanks for your time. Hersfold (t/a/c) 05:03, 31 July 2008 (UTC) P.S. - You're getting this because you're using User MOTD. If you don't want to participate any more, please remove the userbox. Thanks.[reply]

WikiProject Judaism Newsletter

Worship of the Golden Calf
Worship of the Golden Calf

Now with 200% more Jewishness!
Yes, folks, we're moving on up. This newsletter is now the newsletter for both WikiProject Judaism, WikiProject Jewish History, and WikiProject Kabbalah. In the future, I may split them, but for now I think we'll be just fine with one. As always, any questions or comments should be directed to me, L'Aquatique.

A Special Dispatch
Just a note, not aimed at anyone in particular. By order of the administrative cabal, it is officially not cool (and possibly dickish) to call someone an anti-semite when they aren't being anti-semitic. Anti-semitic is a very charged word, and it's important only to use it when you're absolutely sure it applies, lest it become the subject of a Godwin-esque law. Remember Hanlon's Razor: never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.
In the News

 • A new class on the importance scale has been added- C Class- which covers articles better than start but not quite to B Class yet. It is up to the WikiProjects to decide whether to adopt them or not. Currently, there has been little discussion within our Projects, so if you feel strongly either way be sure to note so at your Project[s].
 • There is a proposal to reword the section on NPOV regarding religious articles. Please see Wikipedia_talk:NPOV#Religion section - Disputes between historians or scientists and religious_views to weigh in.
 • Thanks largely to the efforts of Xyz7890, a new navbox has come into being featuring Halakha topics. See: Template talk:Halakha to join in the conversation about how it can best be improved.

To Do

 • The Simple English Wikipedia is beginning a project of creating and improving articles related to religion, including Judaism. At the present time, volunteers are needed to propose our most important subjects for articles to be created. The official working list is here and a more extended list is here. If you are unsure of proper topics, you might try checking our lists of top importance level articles: Judaism and Jewish History. (WikiProject Kabbalah currently doesn't have such a list)
 • [Simple English] WikiProject Christianity is considering running a monthly drive wherein two or three top importance articles from English Wikipedia are simplified and moved over to S.E. They have extended an offer to work with us in creating a similar project for Judaism related articles. For questions or volunteer opportunities, please contact User:John Carter.
 • WikiProject Kabbalah is in dire need of an article rating system for quality and importance. If you are familiar with that system and have some time on your hands, please create one. It could also use some infoboxes...

The "star" in the Jewish Barnstar

Hi Java: Since you were involved in creating the image in Template:Jewishbarnstar later Wikified as Template:The Jewish Barnstar, your input would be appreciated at the discussions at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Judaism#The Jewish Barnstar concerning what type of Star of David is best for the Template:The Jewish Barnstar. "Censorship" of names of G-d
There is an interesting discussion currently taking place regarding whether or not it is acceptable to censor (i.e. G-d, HaShem->YodHey) names of G-d in articles to protect Jews who may be reading or editing the article. You can weigh in here: Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Judaism#Yahweh.

Article Cleanup Lists
User:B. Wolterding has generously offered us use of his bot to generate lists that show which articles of ours are tagged for cleanup. You can read more about this service here: User:B._Wolterding/Cleanup_listings and if you would like to take him up on his offer, contact him on his talk page.

The New Jewish Barnstar
 • There is a collaboration drive to get Holocaust in Lithuania to good article status. For information about how you can help, see the talk page or contact User:Piotrus.
 • WikiProject Kabbalah's only Featured and Good articles have been removed from the WikiProject, on the grounds that neither article (Diane Keaton and David Beckham, respectively) actually mention the subject's affiliation with Kabbalah. If you have sourced information linking either of these people to Kabbalah, please add it so the articles can be returned to the WikiProject.
 • After a rather heated discussion, there are now two barnstars for use by the Jewish WikiProjects, The Jewish Barnstar and The New Jewish Barnstar, and you can choose which one you would like to use.. Remember: barnstars are for rewarding users who are doing good work on the project or on Judaism, Jewish History, or Kabbalah articles, and anyone can give anyone else a barnstar. If you see a user who you thinks deserves a thank you, give them a barnstar!

To Do/Help Requests

 • If you have some spare time on your hands, we could use an article about a Kabbalah scholar named Moshe Idel. According to HG there are quite a few sources easily available, you can contact him if you have questions. Be sure to nominate it for DYK if the finished article is eligible.
 • The folks at Shimon Peres need some assistance from someone familiar with both the Hebrew calendar and language to help them figure out the subject's birthday. If you can help, please see Talk:Shimon_Peres#Birthday.

Scuba diving userboxes

Good job creating all the Userboxes for various levels of certification.

A quick suggestion, if I may: there are dedicated articles for Advanced Open Water Diver, Rescue Diver, Master SCUBA Diver, CMAS* SCUBA Diver and Divemaster. It might be worth having the relevant userboxes link directly to those pages.

Good job though!

List of Converts to Judaism

I'm running out of patience in the RfC on this. Have any ideas? I'd appreciate someone else putting in some input. Thanks. SkyWriter (Tim) (talk) 18:26, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

PS -- to answer your earlier question, the missing person is "me." I'm looking for a different kind of notability and have stayed under the official radar. It's no secret in shul, but I'm not making a to do about it either (although the Rabbi does have me as a guest preacher occasionally). I want to be known for the things I've given instead of what I've given up, and being a poster boy isn't the way to do it. SkyWriter (Tim) (talk) 18:32, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Editing tips

This is a new section in the newsletter to help familiarize project members with the Manual of Style, which should help them in editing not only professional wrestling articles, but all articles in general.

 1. Avoid using bolding to emphasize text. See MOS:BOLD for appropriate uses of bold text.
 2. If you do not want your information removed from articles, please use proper grammar and cite your sources.
 3. Please avoid adding rumors to articles. Most rumors cannot be sourced with a reliable source and go against the Biographies of Living Persons policy.
 4. Avoid jargon such as face/babayface, heel, turn, etc. in articles. People unfamiliar with professional wrestling will not understand what these words mean. See WP:JARGON for more information.

Editing tips

This is a new section in the newsletter to help familiarize project members with the Manual of Style and general editing tips.

 1. When expanding pay-per-view articles, avoid using wrestling jargon without an explanation, per WP:JARGON, maintain an out-of-universe perspective of the article, per WP:IN-U, and avoid writing in excess detail, per WP:PLOT. For further information see WP:PW/PPVG.
 2. Our project has a cleanup listing. Please help by adding sources or expanding any articles listed here.
 3. Per WP:MOSCAPS, television shows, such as RAW and iMPACT!, should be written as Raw and Impact!.
 4. Due to a new consensus formed by Wikipedia users, dates should be unlinked in all articles, per WP:MOSNUM.
 5. Please familiarize yourself with the general notability policy of Wikipedia. Avoid creating new articles that do not satisfy the requirements.
 6. Avoid overlinking in an article. If a subject has been linked once already in the body paragraphs, there is no need to link it again, unless the length of the article requires it to be linked a second time. Lists are the only exceptions to this policy.

Nom for speedy deletion

I have nominated a page you created, Moses ben Avraham, for speedy deletion under A3. It seems to be a duplicate of Moses ben Avraham Avinu. Regards. FangedFaerie (Talk | Edits) 20:34, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Ahuva Gray

I have nominated Ahuva Gray, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ahuva Gray. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Thanks for uploading File:Ahuva Gray.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like PD-self (to release all rights), CC-by-sa-3.0 (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 19:08, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Egyptian Orthodox Jews, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Egyptian Orthodox Jews has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Egyptian Orthodox Jews, please affix the template hangon to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Hi. Thank you very much for adding people to the list. Do you know whether there are reliable sources that say the people in question are Black and Jewish? This is a requirement for adding people to the list, especially living people. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz (talk · contribs) 18:26, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Elizabeth Jane Caulfield

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Elizabeth Jane Caulfield, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Genealogical entry, with no indication of historical noteworthiness nor impact.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. List of Converts

Have any idea what's motivating this? I've seen some weird things on Wikipedia, but there's some kind of hidden agenda here. It smacks me of antisemitism (and I'm normally the last person to think such a thing).SkyWriter (Tim) (talk) 23:38, 29 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'd think long and hard about the fact that four people oppose the inclusion of this material, and only two people support it. Jayjg (talk) 23:46, 29 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Relying on numbers -- eh? There's always more of you folks around than us. But that doesn't change the Wikipedia principle that you don't need an entire article on someone before mentioning them in ANY article. That's completely absurd -- and you know it. SkyWriter (Tim) (talk) 00:01, 30 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The vandal is back. I'm still trying to pin down the motivation going on here so we can figure out how to deal with it. The vandal keeps citing a principle of needing additional articles, against contrary evidence from Wikipedia principle that I've cited to him several times. But a responsible editor who believed that other articles were needed would simply begin to create those articles. The fact that he refuses to do so leaves him as a simple vandal -- but no vandal is ever simple -- there has to be some kind of underlying motivation that we can appeal to. I always get flummoxed by insincerity, but I don't want to keep up some ridiculous edit war. The person seemed upset by the term vandal, but continued the vandalism. Again, I'm stumped. If he doesn't want to be called a vandal, why keep vandalizing? I'd suspect self-deception here, but there's something else involved. In any case, if we don't want to edit war against a vandal, are there any other processes to follow? We can't keep babysitting sourced information all the time. What of administrative help? Have you tried that?SkyWriter (Tim) (talk) 15:16, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I just did some checking. He's, somehow, an Admin!!! That I really can't figure. What's worse is that he seems to have a preoccupation with Jewish subjects. This could be a lot more serious a problem than I had previously guessed. There's some kind of unstated motive driving toward Jewish (and anti-Jewish) subjects. I don't have the time to do battle with an administrative vandal over a host of pages.SkyWriter (Tim) (talk) 15:35, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jews and Judaism in the African diaspora

Hello. The paragraphs you keep inserting concerning Beta Israel consist of portions that have been copied and pasted from your sources and other sections that are original research. Please do not continue to restore material that violates Wikipedia's policies. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz (talk · contribs) 18:16, 2 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop copying and pasting sentences from sources or they will be reverted. Wikipedia:Copyright violations is a non-negotiable Wikipedia policy. "Contributors who repeatedly post copyrighted material despite appropriate warnings may be blocked from editing by any administrator to prevent further problems." — Malik Shabazz (talk · contribs) 22:54, 2 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You're expected to rewrite what a source says. But what you've been doing is copying and pasting what the source says using exactly the same words the source uses. That's a copyright violation and it's not permitted. — Malik Shabazz (talk · contribs) 23:06, 2 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Java7837 (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

if you look at the accounts that nishkid64 claim to be socks, they were simply accounts all created on April 9 in which I was trying to remove uncited categories, they never did anything wrong. For example look at the one edit done by User:Jacobson Phillip, or the other alleged socks like User:Williamson 1957. I have done 10,000+ edits to wikipedia and have created more than 40 articles.

Decline reason:

Technical evidence confirms that you are abusing multiple accounts. Hersfold (t/a/c) 21:06, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the unblock template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

At one time I did I make some socks to effect the result of an AFD, I didn't know we weren't allowed to do such. See Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Joseph3333/Archive but it should be noted that the end result was for Java7837 account to be blocked for 31 hours. I have never done such behavior after that incident. It also seems to odd that me and User:SkyWriter were both blocked at around the same time, since me and him were both advocates of keeping a large amount of material on the, Converts to Judaism article, while none of the supporters of deleting the large section of material were indefed blocked. I think him and me were blocked so as to prevent us from expressing our opinion on the Converts to Judaism, talk page--Java7837 (talk) 21:13, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
