Background
Data Robotics was founded in May 2005 by Geoff Barrall and Julian Terry, as a Silicon Valley start-up.[1] The company developed a data layout technology called BeyondRAID, an alternative to RAID, the established storage technology used in all other multidrive storage systems.
The company's initial product, the Drobo, was launched in June 2006, and is being adopted by small businesses, larger corporate customers, and the US government.[citation needed] Responses from professional reviewers have been positive;[2] a companion product, DroboShare, which allows filesharing across a network, was well-received also.[3]
