Galactic Network can be said to be in idea that of what eventueally became the internet. The original ide was conceived by J.C.R. Licklider in August of 1962 at MIT. He wrote a number of articles where he envisioned the idea of a series of globally interconnected computers where resources and information could be accessed from any site. Licklider later teamed up with ARPA and the rest is history.
