"Me & U" is a song by American singer Cassie from her self-titled debut studio album.
Background
In early 2005, producer Ryan Leslie met Cassie at New York's Marquee night club and later signed her to his production company NextSelection.[1][2] "Me & U" was a demo they recorded in April 2005.[3] Leslie recorded and produced it himself with keyboards and a Mac in the living room of his apartment in Harlem.[1]
Composition
The Washington Post describes Cassie vocals as "Janet-Jackson-after-20-flights-of-stairs thin".
Release and promotion
A campaign on the social networking service Myspace was developed by Leslie to promote "Me & U". It involved Cassie providing fans with a daily behind-the-scenes look at her life. In November 2005, "Me & U" was shared on the platform and within three weeks 60,000 users had made it their Myspace background music. The song became a viral phenomenon, reaching an audience of 10 million prior to its promotion and distribution deal with Atlantic and Bad Boy Records.[1]
2million listeners. It soon became a club hit in the USA, and a promotional tour with Leslie in Germany created an overseas audience. "As soon as they started the MySpace page, people were able to put my face and name to the song, and they loved it https://www.proquest.com/docview/409020140/A4924041A24F6DPQ/13?accountid=196403&sourcetype=Newspapers
