Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Scouting
![]() | Points of interest related to Scouting on Wikipedia: Portal – Category – WikiProject – Alerts – Deletions – Cleanup – Stubs – Assessment |
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Scouting. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
- You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Scouting|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Scouting. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

Highly confusing. It's not a disambiguation page (there's already Boy Scout (disambiguation), with a 10-year old discussion about merging the two, Talk:Boy_Scouts#Merge_of_Boy_Scouts_(disambiguation)). It seems a set-index article, as it's just a list. Boy scouts redirects here but Boy scout doesn't. fgnievinski (talk) 01:48, 2 February 2025 (UTC)

- Keep at least for now. This information could be moved elsewhere, but I am unclear where, but until that is done it should be kept. Bduke (talk) 02:35, 2 February 2025 (UTC)

- Merge I don't see the need for both of these dab/set pages. Reywas92Talk 06:19, 2 February 2025 (UTC)
- I think the point is that "Boy Scouts" is a term that is used across the world. It is not restricted to the USA. Bduke (talk)

Keep Boy Scouts and Boy Scout are two related but distinct concepts. Boy Scouts refers to the umbrella of organizations within Scouting whereas Boy Scout refers to the individual member, usually called a Scout. To prevent confusing crossovers, anything referring to or containing "Boy Scout" (singular) should remain on Boy Scout (disambiguation) whereas anything referring to "Boy Scouts" (e.g. organizations related to the movement) should be on Boy Scouts. The pages should have a hatnote referencing the other DAB page. I think merging the two would make things more confusing. Qwaiiplayer (talk) 19:38, 9 February 2025 (UTC)- Merge per Eluchil404. Having one DAB page is a more elegant solution than 2. Qwaiiplayer (talk) 23:23, 23 February 2025 (UTC)
- Merge. I'd prefer a merge with Boy Scout (disambiguation) since the terms are not always carefully distinguished and Wikipedia rarely has seperate pages for the singular and plural of a term. But the preference is not strong and certainly deletion is unhelpful. The content should be preserved and the title a Blue link whatever merges or refactorings occur. Relisting comment: We need to be sure of exactly where we want this merged to, if that is the going to be the outcome of this discussion.

- Comment To expand on my preferred outcome. All the links in this article (Boy Scouts) would be copied to Boy Scout (disambiguation); all duplicates removed; and the remaining texted copy-edited to reflect that the page is disambiguating both "Boy Scout" and "Boy Scouts". Then Boy Scouts would be left as a redirect to Boy Scout (disambiguation). I think that best reflects the fact that "Boy Scouts" is both a collective term (the usual spoken form to refer to BSA and likely other scouting organizations) and the plural of Boy Scout, and that the different usages are closely linked and not always distinguished in casual speech. Eluchil404 (talk) 00:07, 18 February 2025 (UTC)
- Merge per Eluchil404. Shankargb (talk) 17:35, 23 February 2025 (UTC)
- Merge with Boy Scout (disambiguation): Per Eluchil404. The content of the two pages is insufficiently distinguishable as to require two separate very similar dab pages. Dclemens1971 (talk) 19:51, 23 February 2025 (UTC)
