This page is incorrect and probably useless: Variables are not intrinsically prognostic (or diagnostic for that matter). Only equations or models can be prognostic (or diagnostic). See prognostic equation instead. By the way, GCM in this context does usually refer to General Circulation Model, but can also stand for Global Climate Model.
