non-repudiation

The definition at the start of the article that message authentication is the property that "the receiving party can verify the source of the message" and the statement in the next sentence that "message authentication does not necessarily include the property of non-repudiation" are contradictory. The link to non-repudiation is couched in terms verifying authorship, but if the message source can be verified, is that not tantamount to authorship? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yates (talkcontribs) 14:14, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
