Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests

If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."

• Please make sure you really need technical assistance before making a request here. In particular, if the target page is a redirect back to the source page that has only one revision, you can usually move the page normally.
• To list a technical request: the Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:

  This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.
• If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
• If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.

• Miss Shilling's orifice → REA Restrictor (move · discuss) – 'REA Restrictor' is the name of the invention/device the Wikipedia page is about. The device was invented by the scientist/engineer Beatrice Shilling and 'Miss Shilling's Orifice' is one of the disrespectful nicknames it was known by at the time. There is no good reason to retain this as the article title. I would have changed it myself but could not find the 'Move' option. Tddhoz (talk) 09:40, 31 August 2023 (UTC)

Contested technical requests

Do not insert new requests in this section. Only move requests here if the requested move has been contested.

• Hyperextension (exercise) → Back extensionBack extension (currently a redirect back to Hyperextension (exercise)) (move · discuss) – The article is a previous merger of "Hyperextension (exercise)" and "Back extension", which both are synonymous terms for a strength training exercise. Wikipedia should use an unambiguous name and anatomically more correct name, as this article is about the exercise, not the machine or the medical condition. Therefore it makes sense to use the more self-explanatory name "Back extension". It appears to me that the suggested move should be uncontroversial. Sauer202 (talk) 14:55, 26 August 2023 (UTC)

  @Sauer202: Given that the 3 editors in the talk-page discussion from Jan 2012 - Nov 2013 agreed on merging them into Hyperextension (exercise) rather than the other way around, I wouldn't think this meets the standards for an undiscussed move under WP:RMUM. Дмитрий Медведев - Dmitry Medvedev, Геннадий Зюганов - Gennady Zyuganov, Валерий Герасимов - Valery Gerasimov, Евгений Пригожин - Yevgeny Prigozhin, Афанасий Фет - Afanasy Fet, Прокопий Ляпунов - Prokopy Lyapunov. All of them are from different centuries. There's even a Georgian communist statesman and a contemporary of Beria who has the same first name as his - Лаврентий Картвелишвили and he's transcribed as Lavrenty Kartvelishvili GreatLeader1945 (talk) 16:26, 26 August 2023 (UTC)

• I don't see how this is a tautology. "Stereotypes in the United States" would be the base of the tree. This article by its title should be about stereotypex existing in the United States about a subset of its citizens, those of East Asian extraction, then East Asian Americans. If you saw "Stereotypes of African Americans in the United States" would you also say it should be "Stereotypes of Africans in the United States" (of Africans in Africa, for example) ? Clearly stereotypes of African Americans and stereotypes of Africans are different, are they not? Indeed Stereotypes of East Asians in the United States (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) should be a separate article on this different topic. -- 65.92.244.99 (talk) 03:59, 30 August 2023 (UTC)

    This is an interesting one - one one hand, it's pretty likely that this is notable because of its use by mcdonalds, on checking the sources on the page, about 1/3 of them mention the "Taylor C602" specifically. I would believe that's a more appropriate title simply because it's the actual name of the product, but McDonalds is probably the reason it's notable. We might need additional sources to use "Taylor C602" as the common name, but I'm not objecting to either specifically. ASUKITE 14:55, 30 August 2023 (UTC)
