Request on 18:23:45, 17 January 2021 for assistance on AfC submission by Michal Z 92

Dear Pythoncoder,

recently my submission of TEPLATOR article was declined. In the description you said, that it need to have more independent reviews. It is completely new idea so right now it doesn't have much reviews. I presumed that scientific papers (written by the team of TEPLATOR, obviously), which were peer-reviewed are enough for publishing in wikipedia, also one of the references is an official IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) published document.

Browsing through the wikipedia I found out there is several similar articles about new reactors for example HTR-PM or BN-800.

Can you please assist me with further edits to the article? What else is needed to be published? I would add more reviews but like I said since the idea is very new it is not possible now.

Thank you for your help,

Michal

Michal Z 92 (talk) 18:23, 17 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Michal Z 92: I did not write the comment about needing more references. It was written by another editor 3 months ago. Since then, I can see that you have added more references. Thank you for doing that.
My objection to your draft was that it contained language with a promotional or advertisement-like tone. The second sentence calls the technology "innovative", which makes the page sound more like an advertisement than a neutral article. Similarly, the "Target application" reads like a sales pitch. (Examples of promotional sentences: "It will replace the out-dated conventional heating plants based on fossil fuels.", "TEPLATOR solutions are especially suitable for...")
Another recommendation I have is to add another sentence at the beginning of the article that explains in a non-technical way what the article is about. A good starting point is "TEPLATOR is..."
Note: if you submit this draft again, it will probably be reviewed by another editor who may have additional advice on how to improve the article. Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia! —pythoncoder (talk | contribs) 19:09, 17 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question about your voting symbols script

I hear you are very trusworthy, so I came here to ask you, where did you find your "speedy merge" and "speedy redirect" symbols? JJP...MASTER![talk to] JJP... master? 00:56, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

JJPMaster: I created them myself, specifically for the script. I took the original symbols (example: File:Symbol merge vote.svg), then changed the "light" background color to be the light-black color from File:Symbol speedy delete vote.svg. —pythoncoder (talk | contribs) 15:41, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Random IP is vandalising

Hi there,

I didn't know where to turn seeing as a random IP is vandalising pages of popular balkan singers.

I saw that you reverted the changes they made on the Mile Kitic page, but they also did it on the Mitar Miric page which I've now reverted.

They keep editing to put Republika Srpska as these singers birthplaces when these singers were in fact born in the Socialist republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PR Bosnia and Herzegovina, as I have been reverting it back to).

This person is obviously vandalising as you have noted. Is it possible to get their IP banned or temporarily banned? I'm not sure where to turn as I use Wikipedia sporadically to uphold any Balkan pages that have people spreading misinformation.

Thanks EthanHunt1010 (talk) 08:36, 6 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

EthanHunt1010: It appears this IP has only made two POV pushing edits so far, which is not grounds for a block. If you see more edits like this, revert them and post a warning on their talk page. If this disruptive editing continues, you may want to report them at WP:ANI. —pythoncoder (talk | contribs) 14:21, 6 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ok thanks for letting me know. I was unsure of the process for doing so. I will heed your advice. EthanHunt1010 (talk) 03:06, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipediholism test

Hiii, on you revert here. It is true... see Template:Ambox globe current red, although, the question might've been phrased in a weird way (maybe something mentioning UTC time might've been better). Anyways, I would like your opinion on the inclusion of the question, as it's really possible that like no one knows that the globe rotates anyways. Justiyaya 05:34, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

RfA 2021 review update

Thanks so much for participating in Phase 1 of the RfA 2021 review. 8 out of the 21 issues discussed were found to have consensus. Thanks to our closers of Phase 1, Primefac and Wugapodes.

The following had consensus support of participating editors:

  1. Corrosive RfA atmosphere
The atmosphere at RfA is deeply unpleasant. This makes it so fewer candidates wish to run and also means that some members of our community don't comment/vote.
  2. Level of scrutiny
Many editors believe it would be unpleasant to have so much attention focused on them. This includes being indirectly a part of watchlists and editors going through your edit history with the chance that some event, possibly a relatively trivial event, becomes the focus of editor discussion for up to a week.
  3. Standards needed to pass keep rising
It used to be far easier to pass RfA however the standards necessary to pass have continued to rise such that only "perfect" candidates will pass now.
  4. Too few candidates
There are too few candidates. This not only limits the number of new admin we get but also makes it harder to identify other RfA issues because we have such a small sample size.
  5. "No need for the tools" is a poor reason as we can find work for new admins

The following issues had a rough consensus of support from editors:

  1. Lifetime tenure (high stakes atmosphere)
Because RfA carries with it lifetime tenure, granting any given editor sysop feels incredibly important. This creates a risk adverse and high stakes atmosphere.
  2. Admin permissions and unbundling
There is a large gap between the permissions an editor can obtain and the admin toolset. This brings increased scrutiny for RFA candidates, as editors evaluate their feasibility in lots of areas.
  3. RfA should not be the only road to adminship
Right now, RfA is the only way we can get new admins, but it doesn't have to be.

Please consider joining the brainstorming which will last for the next 1-2 weeks. This will be followed by Phase 2, a 30 day discussion to consider solutions to the problems identified in Phase 1.

There are 2 future mailings planned. One when Phase 2 opens and one with the results of Phase 2. To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

ArbCom 2021 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 6 December 2021. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2021 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add NoACEMM to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:43, 23 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank You for your Arbitration Committee Elections 2021 Voter Guide

Hello Pythoncoder, I would like to thank you for publishing and providing your voter guide for Arbitration Committee Elections 2021 at User:Pythoncoder/ACE/2021. It has been very helpful and useful to me in learning about the pros & cons of all the different candidates with respect to their suitability for Arbitration Committee. It had proper detailed analysis and rationale on every candidate and helped me in voting informatively. Thanks. TheGeneralUser (talk) 01:32, 7 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Pythoncoder. I liked your guide and it might well reflect the results. 52% of the votes were cast on day 1 of the ballot. You might find this full analysis of the campaign to be of interest. You are welcome to leave your thoughts on its talk page. Take care, Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 03:44, 7 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks to both of you for the kind words. I'm glad some people read my guide and liked it. I did try to do more research this year into each candidate, partly for me and partly for the guide, and it looks like that paid off. —pythoncoder (talk | contribs) 18:53, 7 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

EasyWikiDev

Hi! I'm User:Ed6767. I'm probably best known for founding and developing Wikipedia:RedWarn, which is now one of the most used user scripts on the English Wikipedia. I couldn't help but notice that you also develop user scripts, so I was wondering if I could ask you to try and give me feedback on my new tool called EasyWikiDev. It's a new way to develop user scripts quickly and easily using Visual Studio Code, and only takes a few minutes to set up and install on your computer, whilst saving you the headache of constantly having to save edits and reload the page for every single change to your script you'd like to test. EasyWikiDev makes it so you can develop your script locally, on your own computer, and only publish the changes to your users when you are ready to - and unlike other solutions, EasyWikiDev reloads the page right away when you make a change, so you always see the latest version of your script. Plus, by using Visual Studio Code, you have access to some of the most extensive and helpful extensions and tools available to developers right now.

If you're interested, you can find the GitHub repository here and a video tutorial that shows both how to set up EasyWikiDev and how to use it (which you should watch) here. When you have tried it and would like to give feedback, or just need help, please let me know by pinging me - you'd play a big part in my goal to make user script development easier for all Wikipedians. Thanks again for your consideration, ✨ Ed talk!12:50, 17 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

RFA 2021 Completed

The 2021 re-examination of RFA has been completed. 23 (plus 2 variants) ideas were proposed. Over 200 editors participated in this final phase. Three changes gained consensus and two proposals were identified by the closers as having the potential to gain consensus with some further discussion and iteration. Thanks to all who helped to close the discussion, and in particular Primefac, Lee Vilenski, and Ymblanter for closing the most difficult conversations and for TonyBallioni for closing the review of one of the closes.

The following proposals gained consensus and have all been implemented:

  1. Revision of standard question 1 to Why are you interested in becoming an administrator? Special thanks to xaosflux for help with implementation.
  2. A new process, Administrative Action Review (XRV) designed to review if an editor's specific use of an advanced permission, including the admin tools, is consistent with policy in a process similar to that of deletion review and move review. Thanks to all the editors who contributed (and are continuing to contribute) to the discussion of how to implement this proposal.
  3. Removal of autopatrol from the administrator's toolkit. Special thanks to Wugapodes and Seddon for their help with implementation.

The following proposals were identified by the closers as having the potential to gain consensus with some further discussion and iteration:

  1. An option for people to run for temporary adminship (proposal, discussion, & close)
  2. An optional election process (proposal & discussion and close review & re-close)

Editors who wish to discuss these ideas or other ideas on how to try to address any of the six issues identified during phase 1 for which no proposal gained are encouraged to do so at RFA's talk page or an appropriate village pump.

A final and huge thanks all those who participated in this effort to improve our RFA process over the last 4 months.

This is the final update with no further talk page messages planned.

WP:AFC Helper News

Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.

  • AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
  • The template db-afc-move has been created - this template is similar to db-move when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.

Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. Cheers, Primefac, via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 16:00, 16 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Pythoncoder, I recently drafted an article on Pytest, the most popular testing framework in Python, and submitted it for WP:AfC review. Though I'm allowed to move it to Main space directly, I opted for WP:AfC because it is my first article in this area and it's best that more experienced editors do a review to ensure its quality. Would you have time to take a look? Thanks. Thomas Meng (talk) 17:47, 19 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Tagging pages for G13 speedy deletion

Hello, Pythoncoder,

Please look over WP:G13 so you can see what is required for User pages to be eligible for CSD G13 status. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 04:18, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I believe the pages I nominated are G13-eligible because they are userspace drafts with "no content except the article wizard placeholder text", per the third subcategory of G13. I made a userspace draft on User:PythoncoderAlt/sandbox/Userspace draft, using Help:userspace draft and it created a page with similar text. Then I found an older version of the page skeleton and the article wizard placeholder text was exactly the same as the pages I nominated. Am I missing something? —pythoncoder (talk | contribs) 05:07, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Let me know if this is a stupid question, but why are you deleting those articles anyway? Would it be helpful if I nominated a bunch of sandboxes for deletion? Talib1101 (talk) 00:40, 3 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You should only nominate pages (including sandboxes) for speedy deletion if you're sure they meet one or more of the criteria for speedy deletion. Without knowing anything else about these sandboxes, I'm thinking the answer is no. I nominated them because I was quite confident that they met the third part of CSD G13 ("no content except the article wizard placeholder text") but now I'm not so sure. This is the second time I've gotten a message about these sorts of nominations so I'm thinking I'll avoid G13 nominations of userspace drafts for a while. —pythoncoder (talk | contribs) 01:49, 3 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Also, to be clear, there are no stupid questions when it comes to editing Wikipedia. Possible exception: “Should I vandalize Page X?” — obviously, the answer to that one is no. —pythoncoder (talk | contribs) 01:52, 3 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Rejuvenate WikiProject Skepticism

Hello - my name is Susan Gerbic (Sgerbic) and I'm writing to you because at some point you joined Wikipedia:WikiProject Skepticism. This might have been months ago - or even years ago. With the best of intentions the project was created years ago, and sadly like many WikiProjects has started to go dormant. A group of us are attempting to revitalize the Skepticism project, already we have begun to clean up the main page and I've just redone the participant page. No one is in charge of this project, it is member directed, which might have been the reason it almost went dormant. We are attempting to bring back conversations on the talk page and have two subprojects as well, in the hopes that it might spark involvement and a way of getting to know each other better. One was created several years ago but is very well organized and a lot of progress was made, Wikipedia:WikiProject Skepticism/Skeptical organisations in Europe. The other I created a couple weeks ago, it is very simple and has a silly name Wikipedia:WikiProject Skepticism/Skepticism Stub Sub-Project Project (SSSPP). This sub-project runs from March 1 to June 1, 2022. We are attempting to rewrite skepticism stubs and add them to this list. As you can see we have already made progress.

The reason I'm writing to you now is because we would love to have you come back to the project and become involved, either by working on one of the sub-projects, proposing your own (and managing it), or just hanging out on the talk page getting to know the other editors and maybe donate some of your wisdom to some of the conversations. As I said, no one is in charge, so if you have something in mind you would like to see done, please suggest it on the talk page and hopefully others will agree. Please add the project to your watchlist, update your personal user page showing you are a proud member of WikiProject Skepticism. And DIVE in, this is what the work list looks like [1] frightening at first glance, but we have already started chipping away at it.

The Wikipedia:WikiProject Skepticism/Participants page has gone though a giant change - you may want to update your information. And of course if this project no longer interests you, please remove your name from the participant list, we would hate to see you go, but completely understand.

Thank you for your time, I hope to edit with you in the future.Sgerbic (talk) 07:26, 17 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have been looking at internet for a css to copy: nested ordered fully numbered list with levels, and start= like this one. I cannot find one, except partial bits. Trying to learn at wikt:el:Template:test-ol, unsuccesfully (alas, if I were 50 years younger I might study properly). I was hoping that you might know a nice link for us to copypaste from? Thank you, Sarri.greek (talk) 02:33, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I tried a few things but I couldn't get the code you had to work. Have you tried this page yet? —pythoncoder (talk | contribs) 04:59, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for directing me to the right place. I will try it. :) Sarri.greek (talk) 10:26, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Pythoncoder, Pythoncoder! It works! Thank you so much!!!! Sarri.greek (talk) 11:27, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
PS all this time i was writing style=counter-reset: item+1 and it did not work (of course). Now: style="counter-reset: item 2;" and it works! Sarri.greek (talk) 16:33, 4 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you!

Attempts to nominate page for deletion & replacing it with draft, that's already been rejected.

Howdy. I don't think the IP is quite getting the message, concerning his attempts to replace the List of longest-reigning monarchs page. GoodDay (talk) 05:07, 8 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

regarding AWWDMBJAWGCAWAIFDSPBATDMTD

I don't think we have the same definition of what funny is, but I took your advise, and "forked" it. Well, I created a new userbox with a similar name, if that's what you meant by forking it. Dhrm77 (talk) 19:32, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Trouted

Whack!

You've been whacked with a wet trout.

Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly.

You have been trouted because your user page is utter chaos. LilianaUwU (talk / contributions) 07:57, 15 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Benjamin nickname

This is a legit nickname used in various circumstances. Why is it not accepted??? This is not vandalism! Why is there censorship on a Wikipedia page? That in my opinion is vandalism to not accept legit changes!!!! 207.98.198.231 (talk) 02:39, 20 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe you know someone named Benjamin who is sometimes referred to as “Benzilla”, but to put that on Wikipedia, you’ll need a reliable source. —pythoncoder (talk | contribs) 04:23, 20 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You have been trouted for: declining my draft. Why did you do that i was just trying to make a better version of the routing page ) 02:40, 2 March 2023 (UTC) CoolberryWiki (talk) 02:47, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, Welcome to Wikipedia! If you want to improve the routing page, please improve our existing page Routing (disambiguation). Wikipedia's draft system is not for submitting improvements to existing pages. Also, your draft is more confusing than the existing page, because every link just shows up as "Routing". —pythoncoder (talk | contribs) 03:27, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Rottnest Volunteer Guides Association

Hi there I have received your comments and have deleted the copied and pasted sections from our website and replaced them with new text which i hope avoids this issue. Thanks for your reconsideration Leo mollison (talk) 07:16, 2 April 2023 (UTC) Leo Mollison 02 april 2023 Leo mollison (talk) 07:16, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request on 07:32:29, 2 April 2023 for assistance on AfC submission by Leo mollison

I appreciate your comments re copyright as I was testing how to do the while thing. When I got your comments I rewrote the sections in my own words but still referenced then to the RVGA website. But now I cant see the thing in my sandbox at all - the original nor the revisions

How do I proceed? Leo mollison (talk) 07:32, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Your signature

Hi, your current signature is using <font> tags, which are obsolete and are not HTML5 compliant. Would you be willing to adjust that font tag to
<span style="font-family: fontnamehere"> for an error free equivalent? The following:

<span style="font-family:impact">—<span style="color:#004080">python</span><span style="color:olive">coder</span> (AAAAAAAA! A snake! ¦ Why did it have to be snakes?)</span>

displays as the visually identical (to your current) signature: pythoncoder (AAAAAAAA! A snake! ¦ Why did it have to be snakes?)

Haha, that was my April Fools’ Day signature. I changed it back last night. Also changing the tags to span would not in fact result in a visually identical signature because I was already bumping up against the character limit with the existing joke signature. —pythoncoder (talk | contribs) 20:43, 2 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:Claudia Latilawa Taylor

Hi, I had already declined this Draft:Claudia Latilawa Taylor. Did you mean to undo that, or did our edits just overlap? Cheers, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 04:47, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Whoops, looks like it was just an edit conflict. Reverted to your version. —pythoncoder (talk | contribs) 04:56, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, no worries, just wasn't sure what happened. Thanks, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 13:19, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
