Gender and leadership in sustainable development

Gender and sustainable development have been examined, focusing on women's leadership potential and barriers to it. While leadership roles in sustainable development have become more androgynous over time, concealed, distorted, and ignored patriarchal structures and perceptions still contribute to constraining, impeding, and excluding women from becoming leaders. Multiple studies have nonetheless found that female leadership has has had a positive effect on multinational's support for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)[1] and competency areas crucial for sustainable development, thus accelerating longer-term business opportunities in line with the SDGs.[2]
