A person living outside the confines of the socially accepted bi-polar gender system. A person who redefines or plays with gender, or who refuses gender altogether. A label for people who bend/break the rules of gender and blur the boundaries.

This can (but does not necessarily) include any transgender person. These individuals challenge the social norms of gender definition, in much the same way as L/G/B individuals challenge the social norms of sexuality.

Some genderqueers prefer that you use third gender pronouns to refer to them, such as "hir" instead of her/his, and some prefer that you use their name and no pronouns at all.
