Xenocs is a company providing instruments, software and related services for x-ray characterization of materials, in particular Small Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS)[1] and Wide Angle X-ray Scattering (WAXS).
History
Xenocs was founded in 2000 as a spin-off from Institut Laue Langevin in Grenoble, France.[2]
Ian Anderson, Frédéric Bossan and Peter Høghøj founded the company with Frédéric Bossan and Peter Høghøj as the management team.
In 2001 the company moved to nearby Sassenage and set up facilities for production of X-ray, EUV and neutron optics. In 2002 it launched the FOX2D line of single reflection multilayer coated x-ray optics, followed in 2006 by the GeniX micro-focus x-ray source and the FOX3D aspheric multilayer coated x-ray optics building on a range of patents. In 2008 it launched products for virtually scatterless x-ray collimation[3], allowing for increased performance of SAXS equipment, leading to the launch of the Xeuss SAXS instrument product-line in 2010.
Following a collaboration with CEA and Arkema, Xenocs launched the Nano-inXider compact SAXS equipment at the IUCr conference in 2014.
In 2014, for the International Year of Crystallography and in cooperation with the IUCr International Union of Crystallography, Xenocs co-organized the IUCr-UNESCO Open Factory together with Stoe and Dectris.[4]
At the end of 2016, Xenocs acquired the SAXSLAB company with offices near Copenhagen, Denmark and Northampton, MA, USA with SAXSLAB founders and management team (Karsten Joensen, Søren Skou and Scott Barton) staying on board.[5]
Xenocs combined the Xeuss product line with the SAXSLAB Ganesha, notably the Q-Xoom moving SAXS detector in the Xeuss 2.0 Q-Xoom before showing the Xeuss 3.0 SAXS/WAXS beamline for the laboratory at the SAS2018 conference in parallel to introducing the Xenocs XSACT software for data reduction and analysis.
Geographical
Xenocs is one of the major manufacturers in the SAXS market.[6] Its headquarters are in Grenoble, France, close to both the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility and the Institute Laue Langevin in a facility inaugurated in 2019.
Xenocs Inc is now located in Holyoke, MA where product development and production also takes place, while a West-Coast branch office is located in Santa Barbara.
Xenocs China is located in Beijing and Hefei.
Xenocs Asia-Pacific is located in Singapore.
Xenocs ApS is located near Copenhagen, Denmark.
Customers
Xenocs customers are found in universities, research institutes and corporate labs, working on research, development and process optimization of a wide range of new materials. They use Xenocs instruments for their research and scientific publications.[7] Application segments range from nanomaterials, polymers, food, consumer care, energy to biomaterials and pharmaceuticals.
The Xenocs group employs app. 75 people (Sept. 2020).
