Many American accents have GOAT-fronting so [ɔʊ] does not closely match all American accents "goat", but "goal" works for most English dialects due to pre-/l/ backing. undo

I had to write them elsewhere on my device, where I could edit the boldness of each individual letter correctly), then paste it back into the Wikipedia window. undo Tags: Visual edit Mobile edit Mobile web edit
  • curprev 17:5717:57, 17 August 2024 LikiWikiNiki talk contribs 21,210 bytes −17 The German words ‘alles’ and ‘Kalender’ use a short ‘a’ sound, therefore “father” is the incorrect sound. In all English speaking nations, ‘father’ sounds the same as ‘farther’, meaning “at, to, or by a greater distance.” The correct English equivalent sound to the German ‘a’ sound in ‘alles’ and ‘Kalender’ is in the words ‘at’ and ‘fathom’ because the ‘a’ is short. This is why the next German letter ‘aː’ for ‘aber’ & ‘Staat’ has ‘father’ as the English approximation, because it’s a long ‘a’. undo Tags: Visual edit Mobile edit Mobile web edit
