  • curprev 23:4923:49, 13 August 2025 Anonymous44 talk contribs 17,962 bytes −251 Key: Of course seseo and ceceo are the results of a phonemic merger - they exhibit identical reflexes of phonemes that were distinct in Old Spanish (/s/ on the one hand and /ts/ and /dz/ on the other). It's just that the phonemes that merged were not realised in the way they are in areas with distinción today (i.e. as [s] vs [θ]), so the non-Castilian dialects have never had these particular phonetic realisations of the contrast. undo
