Question from BU2 Seabees (20:42, 3 December 2025)

[edit]

I’ve had a couple edits removed. This is the message: Hello, I'm FantasticWikiUser. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Camp No have been undone because they did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Teahouse or the Help desk. Thanks. FantasticWikiUser (talk) 18:55, 3 December 2025 (UTC)

⑦ Please do not use styles that are nonstandard, unusual, inappropriate or difficult to understand in articles, as you did in Camp seven (Guantanamo). There is a Manual of Style, and edits should not deliberately go against it without special reason. Thank you. Adakiko (talk) 19:19, 3 December 2025 (UTC) --BU2 Seabees (talk) 20:42, 3 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, @BU2 Seabees! Really sorry for the late reply. Wikipedia uses a Manual of Style to ensure that all edits follow a specific format that the wiki uses. Looking at the edit, it seems to be unrelated to the manual of style, however it did lack the appropriate reliable sources for inclusion on Wikipedia. Please ensure that all statements added to Wikipedia have sources, to avoid having those edits reverted. Chlod (top • contribs) 13:53, 9 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

GoToTitle

[edit]

Hi, I love GoToTitle so i added it to my global.js at meta:User:FaviFake/global.js, but unfortunately it only works on enwiki and nowhere else. On itwiki and other wikis, for example, clicking on the title does nothing! Is there a way I can use GoToTitle beyond enwiki? FaviFake (talk) 11:06, 21 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, @FaviFake! GoToTitle is a script hosted on the English Wikipedia, so to have it work on other wikis, you'd need to include the domain name (en.wikipedia.org) in the mw.loader.load function you have in your global.js. For example:
mw.loader.load( '//en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Chlod/Scripts/GoToTitle.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript' ); // Backlink: [[en:User:Chlod/Scripts/GoToTitle.js]]
Chlod (top • contribs) 17:21, 21 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm so dumb, I thought I had already done that! Sorry for boterhing you. FaviFake (talk) 09:46, 22 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@FaviFake: Don't worry about it! Just a minor oversight. Nothing to beat yourself up over. Chlod (top • contribs) 01:49, 23 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Question from NuggestNug (20:32, 21 December 2025)

[edit]

Hello! I've made some edits, and I've learned a good chunk of things (which aren't really important, mostly getting into rabbit holes lol), but I still feel like I'm not that ready to do things above small edits or rewording to fit more into the MOS (I only read the simplified MOS and part of the real MOS). Any advice you have to start doing more? --NuggestNug (talk) 20:32, 21 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, @NuggestNug, and welcome to Wikipedia! What you can do on Wikipedia very much depends on your interest. I've seen a lot of people start out with making copyedits on smaller, less-visited pages, undoing vandalism and reporting repeat offenders, or just adding extra info on articles about topics they care about. Personally, I'm one of the ones that started out with counter-vandalism, and it was pretty easy: you just need to know when something becomes appropriate to revert, and the rest is procedural. There's also a lot of counter-vandalism scripts by many other Wikipedians that make that process easy. The caveat that counter-vandalism does have is that it's an area that sometimes tends to get hot, which means you're likely to find people attacking you (or others). If that's not for you, then I think you should just be bold and start making those small rewording edits. We all start from somewhere, and it's okay to make a few small mistakes a long the way, if you ever do make them. I've found the MOS to be more of a "learn as you go" kind of thing, where I learn some part of the MOS either because I saw someone else make an edit about some obscure MOS rule, or I check the MOS myself while writing an article. You don't have to read the MOS cover-to-cover; I can assure you that most Wikipedians haven't either. Chlod (top • contribs) 02:00, 23 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I found WP:JOB randomly, and I decided to do "Answer an Edit Request".
Now, here are some more (random) questions, because I have too many of them :)
  1. How'd you make your userpage not have the "User:" part on it? I don't really have experience in HTML. (I asked a friend for help for the HTML parts of my signature, and they're in the U.S to visit family.)
  2. In your signature, is the face in it random each time you sign, and does it mean something?
  3. How do make your userpage look good, per se?
  4. How's your day going? Mine personally is mixed, considering it's 1:44AM UTC–5 (ET)... but other than that, it's fine
  5. Twinkle or RedWarn?
  6. Ok, I need to sleep, I was just about to ask if you could be a mentor for me
Thanks for your help!! NuggestNugtalk to me!contribs logsthey

@NuggestNug:
  1. Removing the "user" part is a bit of a hack. It involves using {{DISPLAYTITLE:}} to override the formatting of the title, and send the "User:" part far off the screen. If you try to edit my user page, you'll see the exact code for it on the first line:
    {{DISPLAYTITLE:<span style="position:fixed;top:-1000vh;">User:</span><span style="font-family:'Roboto','Arial',sans-serif;font-weight:300; color:var(--color-base, black);">Chlod</span>}}

The <span style="position:fixed;top:-1000vh;">User:</span> part specifically is what you want. Do note that if you plan on doing this, please use {{user page}} on your user page and display it prominently, to prevent anyone from thinking your userpage is a real page.
  2. I type in the face every time. There's a wide variety of templates you can place before your signature to show the face. I mostly use {{smiley}}, there's also {{wink}} and {{frown}}. In most cases, I don't put a smiley at all, as it's not necessary for a lot of discussions.
  3. Making your user page look good is up to you. A lot of the time, editors look at other people's userpage, find something they like from it, look into the source wikitext for it, then just copy it into their own userpage. If you have experience in HTML, you can also use that to your advantage, as MediaWiki allows a subset of HTML to be used on pages. Help:HTML in wikitext has more info on that. CSS is also supported, albeit via a very roundabout way using Wikipedia:TemplateStyles. An example of that can be found at User:Chlod/Full-width image (specifically how I do the gallery on my user page).
  4. My day's going good so far. At the time you posted this, I was playing Maimai DX with a friend. I live in UTC+08:00, so practically on the other side of the world. Nevertheless, feel free to send messages at any time and I'll try to reply as soon as possible!
  5. They're both useful for different things. I use Twinkle for adding cleanup templates, nominating for deletion, or requesting protection. I used to RedWarn for reverting and reporting users. Nowadays, I use Ultraviolet, because RedWarn's become hard to use.
  6. I can be your mentor. Just tell me if you want me to claim you on the mentorship module; I'll have to inform your previous mentor before I do that.

Question from TheHawkB on Muriel Stanley Venne (04:04, 1 January 2026)

[edit]
Note: TheHawkB's mentor HouseBlaster is away.

Hello there and happy new year. I am making some small changes to Muriel Stanley Venne's page. She is/was my mother. She would have liked a nicer picture on this site. --TheHawkB (talk) 04:04, 1 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @TheHawkB, and thanks for reaching out. I see you've placed an image on the article already, which is a start. Because Wikipedia aligns itself with being a repository of free images, we usually also require images to be free to use, which is also why the previous image was of low quality. Do you happen to know the photographer took this photo, or perhaps you took this photo yourself? Chlod (top • contribs) 09:09, 1 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Chlod, I am checking with my sister. I think she took that photo. If not we have lots of pictures that we can 100% verify the photographer.
