Matthew Brown (Morven)

[edit]

Not sure if this is the right place, but wanted to let those who may be following this page the sad news (among other sad news) at Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2025-07-18/Obituary about former arbitratator Matthew Brown (Morven). He apparently died last year (not that old). Those he served with are on the chart at the bottom of Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee/History I see it is a fair number over three years. Not all of them will read The Signpost (and some are fairly inactive now). I think they (and others) might want to know so they can leave (belated) condolences. I will let some of those I know know, but hopefully posting here will help the news to circulate. Sorry to be the bearer of sad tidings. Carcharoth (talk) 09:12, 20 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

As I said on my talk page: Thank you for this. I hadn't noticed Morven's mention in The Signpost (just above), so it's nice of you to do this. I will post something at Wikipedia talk:Arbitration Committee. On a happier note, it's good to hear from the Big Bad Wolf (even bearing bad news), and to know that you too are "still around", sort of.
I didn't know Morven very well. To me, when I joined Wikipedia "only" in 2004, Morven was already an old hand. I served on ArbCom with him my entire term from January 2007 through August 2008. That was almost two decades ago, and sadly my memory isn't what it used to be. But, while I'm sure we must have had our disagreements, perhaps heated, I only have positive memories of him.
