Wikipedia:Requested templates

Add new requests for a new template or updates to existing templates to the bottom of this page. Please be clear about what the template is used for, roughly what it should look like, and which articles it should link to, if any.

For requests regarding stub templates, go to Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals.

A general description and guideline for userboxes can be found at Wikipedia:Userboxes. A detailed instruction to use the userbox template can be found at Template:Userbox. For requests regarding userboxes, go to Wikipedia talk:Userboxes/Ideas.

Template for excessive details

[edit]
[edit]

{{Decadebox}} links to years in e.g. 710s BC, but makes no links to the extant articles for years in 740s BC (740 BC, 743 BC, 745 BC, 746 BC, 747 BC) or earlier decades. – Fayenatic London 14:15, 7 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

According to the doc of {{dr}}, which {{decadebox}} uses for its links, {{dr-make}} may need updating (it is template-protected). ~ Rusty meow ~ 17:14, 28 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Cite legislation (generic) request

[edit]

Hi I'd like to create a new cite template pls. I tried figuring out how to do it but then I came across this page.

Background

[edit]

There are cite legislation templates for Australia (but this contains a special link to Auslii) and there's a cite leg template for the UK but no generic one and this is something I need often or I've found is generally lacking (e.g. see the Norman Manley page that I was editing earlier that cites two Jamaican statutes).

Ask

[edit]

What I'm looking for is very basic and not complicated. It would work for legislation in most common law jurisdictions (incl Australia and the UK).

Common law legislation is usually cited as follows:

  • Title including year (jurisdiction), eg. Freedom of Information Act 1980 (UK)
  • Title including year (jurisdiction), provision type, provision number, eg. Freedom of Information Act 1980 (NSW), s 25(1)

I'd also like to include a url link.

Could someone please create a basic simple template. It might be called "Cite legislation (generic common law)" or similar.

{{cite leg
|title=
|jurisdiction=
|provision type=
|provision number=
|url=
|access-date=}}

Notes:

  • Title should be rendered in italics
  • Jurisdiction should appear in parenthesis immediately after the title
  • Title and jurisdiction should be followed by a comma and then followed by the provision (type and) number.
  • Provision type is optional but should be free text to allow a variety (eg. section or s. or ss., regulation or reg, rule or r or rr., clause or cl, article, subsection or subs., subclause or subcl, subregulation, subrule etc.)
  • Provision number should be free text and accommodate parenthesis, periods, numbers and letters (e.g, 2(1), 2.2, 22A, 22(a), 22(a)(i).

Work in progress

[edit]

Alternatively, I've created a link for a sandbox page on my user page as I was planning to get started there and work out the kinks (for example NSW vs NSW, Aus.).

Advice or a cheat sheet as to how to do it also welcomed. Thx. ash (talk) 08:03, 7 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Userbox for Messianic Jews

[edit]

Could the userbox I designed here be made into an actual template, that is, listed at Template:User Messianic Jew? Perhaps someone could also tweak it to make the colour parameter able to be customized — I don't really know how to do that. Perhaps there is already a template like this, but I haven't been able to find one. 🌳 Balsam Cottonwood (talk) ♰ 01:56, 2 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I suppose I should have put this at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Userboxes/Ideas. No reply necessary. 🌳 Balsam Cottonwood (talk) ✝ 11:32, 4 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

request template for contentious topics

[edit]

initial request

[edit]

i need to set up the template below. i would like to add a parameter to insert the phrase that identifies the topic, and a parameter to provide an image file if desired. and let me know any other parameters that might be useful to add, as i am not very knowledgable in this area. thanks!! this will probably become template:contentious, which is currently a redirect. Thanks.
