I did take that into consideration, but it's still a common enough practice that anything named "II" is related to whatever "I" is (for example, see User:Giano II). I'm not putting my foot down or anything. Any 'crat is plenty welcome to perform the rename if they disagree; I'd just prefer to see a less "derivative" name. There wasn't any name completely free at all projects among all the options I searched (mostly at this project, because of it's number of users, all the good names seem to be already taken). When you unified your account, you automatically had "User:A Cool Editor" reserved as your name on all Wikimedia projects. A local rename will result in the detachment of your new name from your old name. This is only an issue if you are active on other Wikimedia projects (Commons, Meta, etc), and you can unify again if you're renamed locally.
