Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Scam warning banner

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Scam warning: There are scammers who will actively target new editors and Articles for Creation participants. They will pretend or persuade you into believing that they are community volunteers, and  – eventually or at some point  – will ask for money or other forms of payment or compensation in exchange for providing you with assistance, or with the promise of publishing or approving a draft page that you created to become an article. The assistance and guidance provided to you by legitimate Wikipedia editors and volunteers will always be performed completely for free. Real volunteers and community members will never contact or solicit you for payment or compensation in exchange for assistance.

If anyone contacts you promoting any "premium" or "paid" Wikipedia services or assistance to you, or if anyone attempts to persuade you to pay (or "donate") any amount of money to them, or provide them with compensation of any amount or of any kind in exchange for assistance or with publishing a draft page that you created, it is a scam.

  • Do not reply or respond to them - even if to tell them that you know or are aware of their attempts to scam you. Stop all communication with them.
  • Do not give them any of your personal, private, account (Wikipedia or elsewhere), contact, or other information that is linked to you.
  • Do not click on or navigate to any website links or URLs that they give to you.
  • Do not believe anything they tell you as being truthful or legitimate.
  • Do not obey or follow any directions or instructions that they give to you.
  • Do not agree, promise, plan, arrange, or attempt to send any kind of payment or compensation to them.

If anyone attempts to contact you in this (or a similar) manner, please forward a copy of the entire email conversation, including email headers, to paid-en-wp@wikipedia.org. After you have done this, delete all correspondence that you've received from them. You can refer to this scam warning for more information.
