Question from Nicholas J Gosse (09:16, 19 March 2025)
[edit]Good morning Alyo, My reason for registering with Wikipedia is that I wish to create a profile for my wife's paternal grandfather, who worked for Rolls Royce from 1916-1961 when he retired as Chief Project Engineer Rolls Royce Cars. His name is referenced via Wikipedia information on the pre-WWII Rolls Royce Phantom II Continental and the post War Bentley Continental R, but when you connect his highlighted name, there is no content. I await your advice, with thanks and regards, Nick Gosse. --Nicholas J Gosse (talk) 09:16, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Nicholas J Gosse, so first things first, we generally only accept articles when the topic has reached a certain level of "notability". In the case of a biography, this requires the person to have received significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable and independent of the subject. Unfortunately, it isn't enough for you to simply write about someone in your family based on your personal knowledge. Was your wife's grandfather discussed by books, magazines, etc? Otherwise it's unlikely the article will be accepted. Alyo (chat·edits) 09:35, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Alyo, thanks for that advice, as I mentioned his name comes up as a highlight consistently in Wikipedia references to the Rolls Royce and Bentley car marques I named, but with no accompanying profile. His name appears in every book written on Rolls Royce and Bentley cars from 1920 until 1960, he was one of Sir Henry Royce's inner design team, that moved with him from Derby to West Wittering in Sussex in the early 1920's, due to Royce's poor health.
- The most recent magazine articles appear in Classic Cars January 2025, under Top 50 Design Classics page 55, Designers choice Bentley R Type Continental and Classic Cars April 2025 pages 65-74,Curves of Conjecture, The Bentley Blizzard.

- If he is indeed covered by multiple books on Rolls Royce, then that would go a long way towards demonstrating notability. If you want, you can start a draft at User:Nicholas J Gosse/sandbox -- this is a little userpage for you to work in, at your own timing. You'll need to include citations to the books where he's mentioned, so let me know if you want to start with that. Alyo (chat·edits) 20:58, 20 March 2025 (UTC)

- Good afternoon Aylo,
- His full name was H.I.F Evernden, always known as Ivan Evernden, and in Sir Henry Royce's inner circle as 'Ev'.
- He started work for Rolls Royce in 1916 and retired in 1961 as Chief Project Engineer Rolls Royce Cars.
- He considered his success in getting Sir Henry Royce to agree to go ahead with his design for the Phantom II Continental to be the pinnacle of his pre-WWII career. He was awarded an MBE for his work on the Cromwell tank in WWII. The culmination of his post WWII career was the , Nicholas J Gosse (talk) 18:00, 21 March 2025 (UTC)

Question from Lucas96367222 on Wikipedia:Edit filter/False positives/Reports (11:34, 19 March 2025)
[edit]How do create a citation --Lucas96367222 (talk) 11:34, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Lucas96367222, the simplest thing to do is put your reference information inside "ref" tags, like this:
<ref>[REFERENCE CONTENT HERE]</ref>
Place that code at the end of the sentence you want to attach the citation to, and the reference will show exactly what you've typed in. At a very basic level, that's all your need. Now, the second step is that we have templates for citations, like {{cite web}}, which do all the fancy formatting for you. If you copy the template, and fill in the various parameters, you'll get a full citation automatically. So the full (blank) code would be this:<ref>{{cite web |last= |first= |date= |title= |url= |website= |location= |publisher= |access-date=}}</ref>
Just fill that in with the information you have (or use {{cite book}} or {{cite magazine}} if appropriate) and you're good to go. Let me know what follow-up questions you have. Alyo (chat·edits) 16:27, 20 March 2025 (UTC)

[edit]Hola.
First, I'm sorry, but I can only respond in English and answer questions about the English Wikipedia. I've used translation software to understand your question. Second, we generally recommend that people do not write about friends or family members, or anyone with whom you have a conflict of interest. Was your partner written about in newspapers, books, of magazines? If not, the article will not be accepted--we do not allow articles written purely based on personal experience. Question from Keepfloying on Elias Zerhouni (14:28, 13 April 2025)
[edit]Hello!
I have a question about how to resolve the below sentence. It is unclear whether the year 1975 is when Zerhouni earned his degree, moved to the US or both. Let me know what you think.
"After having earned his M.D. degree at the University of Algiers, School of Medicine, in 1975, Zerhouni emigrated to the United States to study radiology at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine"
Thanks! --Keepfloying (talk) 14:28, 13 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Keepfloying, good catch. Based on this podcast interview and these articles, it seems as though all of those things happened in the same year? He both got his degree and them came to the US in 1975, based on those sources. Alyo (chat·edits) 03:11, 14 April 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks! Nice job on the research and findings. I'll update the sentence to remove the ambiguity. Keepfloying (talk) 06:46, 14 April 2025 (UTC)

Question from MaineChronical (22:25, 17 April 2025)
[edit]Hi Cowboygilbert, thank you for being assigned as my mentor. I'm currently working on a biographical article draft for myself, Nick Marcus — former professional basketball player and current professor. I’ve gathered some reliable sources including local newspaper archives, Euroleague and minor league rosters, and I’m currently waiting on an ESPN article that may further support my notability. I’d appreciate any general advice you might have on strengthening a draft like this. Thanks again for your time! --MaineChronical (talk) 22:25, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
Hi Alyo, I’ve updated my sandbox draft with multiple third-party reliable sources and formatted all citations. Could you kindly review and let me know if this now meets notability criteria? Thanks!” --MaineChronical (talk) 00:07, 18 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @MaineChronical, I do not think that the article currently meets notability criteria. Since you did not play for a top-level professional league (see the leagues referenced at WP:NHOOPS), the base guideline says that a person is notable if they have been the subject of significant coverage in published reliable sources. That means multiple reliable sources talking about the person in some detail, not just passing mentions. The draft says that "Marcus was recognized in multiple articles..." which might be true, but only the Bangor Daily News is linked. How much content is there about you in the ESPN The Magazine piece? Alyo (chat·edits) 15:42, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
- Just to add, the advice about strengthening the draft will boil down to "more sources". Especially when we talk about someone who's career predates the majority of internet coverage, it's really critical to have as many sources included, because I'm not likely to find more without knowing where to look. Question from Keepfloying on Wang Zhenyi (astronomer) (18:16, 21 April 2025)
[edit]Hello! I have a question about this article. There is a maintenance template that specifies that the "article contains wording that promotes the subject in a subjective manner". Do you know if there is a particular sentence or sentences that this template is referring to? I did a read through the article and I can find maybe one such as : "Wang Zhenyi was not only accomplished in the natural sciences but also progressive in her beliefs, dedicating herself to lifelong learning and advocating for women's education."
The rest seems ok.
Please could you take a look and let me know if you agree?
Many thanks! --Keepfloying (talk) 18:16, 21 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Keepfloying, I would say that there are a few places where the article could be rewritten or trimmed. To start, the majority of content in Wikipedia needs to have a source. So take any passage in the article and ask yourself, "who is saying this?" Look at the end of the poetry section:
Wang Zhenyi's poetry is widely renowned for its simplicity, directness, and emotional depth. Her verses often reflect social realities, shedding light on the conditions and sentiments of her time. She utilized poetry as a medium to express her thoughts on various themes, including: the status of women in society, the value of education, and her love for scientific inquiry. Her work is notable for its blend of traditional literary forms with progressive ideas, making her a unique voice in Qing dynasty literature. Her poetic legacy, though partially preserved, remains a testament to her intellect, empathy, and pioneering spirit as a female scholar in a male-dominated era.
- There are no sources in this entire section, and yet it's uniformly positive, even praising. We cannot say "A historian said that Wang Zhenyi's poetry is widely renowned for its simplicity..." because there's no source, so instead we're just telling our readers a subjective opinion about her poetry. Who says she's renowned? Who says she's unique? Who has framed her legacy amongst the male poets of her era? If this were a modern poet, that kind of prose could have been written by a PR person, which is often a sign that content isn't appropriate for Wikipedia. I know this is a little more difficult because of the time in which she lived, but I would look for more historical perspectives on her impact, and try to rewrite with those in mind. Question from Nawmanbaig (16:49, 22 April 2025)
[edit]hey, how can i move my sandbox to official article --Nawmanbaig (talk) 16:49, 22 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, @Nawmanbaig, your draft is not currently appropriate for Wikipedia and would likely be nominated for deletion if you moved it. The article is currently written as though it is a brochure for the product, not a neutral encyclopedia article about a topic. I see that all of you references predate the product itself, which means that you apparently have no reliable sources/citations about the product itself. In order for a topic to be notable enough for Wikipedia, it needs to have multiple sources discussing the topic in significant detail, and the sources need to be independent of the product or company. That's not true here. Alyo (chat·edits) 15:49, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
- we've updated please let me know if we need to do any changes Nawmanbaig (talk) 16:53, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Nawmanbaig, the content does look a bit better, but again, there are no sources about BrainSim-X. In order for a product or company to be judged notable enough for Wikipedia, it needs to be covered by multiple independent, reliable sources. Ending your article by saying "notability may evolve" doesn't solve the current notability problems. Alyo (chat·edits) 17:14, 24 April 2025 (UTC)

[edit]so when im doing this is it okay to add my name to the article? --AuroraChandler (talk) 18:56, 23 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @AuroraChandler, I'm not exactly sure what you're asking, but no, it's not generally appropriate to add yourself to an article (unless you're, say, a professor of Physics at Harvard and the article is called "List of physics professors at Harvard"). What do you mean though? Alyo (chat·edits) 15:51, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
Question from WilliamMGoodman (20:46, 26 April 2025)
[edit]Hi Alyo. I recently received a notice that someone "reviewed" the page I earlier created on "Paraclete Potter". What does that mean? Going to that page, the history does not show that somebody edited the page recently, etc. --WilliamMGoodman (talk) 20:46, 26 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @WilliamMGoodman, that is an additional flag that is placed on new articles so that at least one other person (besides the creator) puts eyes on every new article added to Wikipedia. Articles are automatically created in the "unreviewed" state, unless you are a particularly prolific article creator, and then at some point someone will come along and check it as part of the Wp:New pages patrol. If yours was marked reviewed without any edits, then that means the reviewer found no issue with it, and it was moved out of the backlog. If you stick around Wikipedia, helping out with the NPP later on is a good way to (1) help with a critical task that has a large backlog and (2) gain good experience with applying Wikipedia policies. - Hi @Spasimir Emilov Tsvetanov, can you give me an example of a topic you're looking into? Or an article you're working on? There is no magic trick, so it really depends on the topic, and what sources exist. Or maybe you should think about it the other way around--instead of writing a sentence and then looking for the "right link", check out what the sources you can find say, and then write sentences based on that. - Hi @Dubhunterytofficial, in this case, you need a source like a newspaper or magazine that has described her family life. What you added may very well be true, but Wikipedia has rules that say that content must be "verifiable" by other editors, and we cannot verify information you know through personal knowledge. Does that make sense? Alyo (chat·edits) 04:14, 7 May 2025 (UTC)
Question from Shahzadneelkhan (11:31, 9 May 2025)
[edit]Hi Alyo , HOW I CAN change my name here --Shahzadneelkhan (talk) 11:31, 9 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Shahzadneelkhan, you’ll want to follow the procedures at WP:Changing username. If the username you want isn’t registered, the most straightforward change is at WP:CHUS. Alyo (chat·edits) 02:41, 11 May 2025 (UTC)
Question from Kinglaw industries (11:48, 11 May 2025)
[edit]Hi --Kinglaw industries (talk) 11:48, 11 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Kinglaw industries, please note that per the username policy here, accounts should be personal, and not suggest or reference a company. See WP:ISU. You may need to change your username to continue editing, or else create a new account for you to use in your personal capacity. Alyo (chat·edits) 14:59, 11 May 2025 (UTC)
Question from Unconfidentpillow (18:44, 11 May 2025)
[edit]Good afternoon, I am working on another draft. Here is the link | Draft:FRAG Pro Shooter | I have reviewed the requirements, but I want to double check: does it qualify for notability? If so, are there any improvements that can be made (other than adding new sections,) and are any references unreliable? Thank you for taking the time to review my question. --Unconfidentpillow (talk) 18:44, 11 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Unconfidentpillow, this game still appears non-notable to me, at least based on the sources you've found. One issue is that many of your sources are not "independent" of the game/publisher. The listings on Nintendo's site, or the app store, and of course the game's own site, are written by the game company. So for notability purposes, those don't carry any weight on Wikipedia. Something like the PLYGAM piece would be great if it was written by a reliable source, instead of a blogger/youtuber. Does that make sense? I also looked around and couldn't find any sources discussing or reviewing the game, so I'm not sure this game will meet our notability standards. Alyo (chat·edits) 03:28, 12 May 2025 (UTC)
Question from Blessing Akoko (20:12, 11 May 2025)
[edit]Hello, how are you doing? I have an issue of navigating the platform as I perceive it to be so overwhelming. Do you have any tips I can use? --Blessing Akoko (talk) 20:12, 11 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Blessing Akoko, to start, what is your goal? Are you trying to become an editor or are you just using Wikipedia for educational purposes? Alyo (chat·edits) 03:29, 12 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hello @Alyo sorry for late reply. Actually its for both. I want to be an editor and at the same time use it for educational purposes Blessing Akoko (talk) 18:57, 20 May 2025 (UTC)
- What’s the most common pitfall new editors like me should avoid when starting out, and how can I navigate it effectively? Blessing Akoko (talk) 19:22, 20 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Blessing Akoko good question. Wikipedia has been around a long time, and has a very established set of norms, so I would say--always ask questions! A helpful way to think about Wikipedia is the WP:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle. In other words, first be bold, and make edits that you think improve the article. But if someone undoes your edit, or "reverts" you, then start a discussion, and try to understand the perspective of the other editor. And be willing to learn new rules, because as I said, Wikipedia has a lot of them--and some may not make sense to you at first. But yes, be open to discussions and ask questions of other editors, instead of just trying to force a change by making the edit over and over. Wikipedia moves very slowly, and there's not a deadline to what you're doing. So take your time, ask questions on talk pages, and find an area that interests you. I always think it's easier to edit when you find the topic interesting, as opposed to finding a task on Wikipedia that "needs" to be done, and making it your job. Alyo (chat·edits) 03:28, 21 May 2025 (UTC)

Hey! I'm gonna need classes of editing so I don't make mistakes in the future. Would you kindly help me with that? --Aya 1 Fan (talk) 15:36, 15 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Aya 1 Fan, I'm happy to help. There aren't really "classes" I have for you--the best way to learn is really just to start editing! Make mistakes, ask what other people are talking about, and learn by doing. I would advise to start with topics that interest you, or that you know something about, and then work to expand articles in that topic area. From there you should learn the basics of adding references, but there is so much you can do just starting there! Alyo (chat·edits) 17:11, 15 May 2025 (UTC)

Articles for Creation backlog drive
[edit]
Hello Alyo:
WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive in June!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 1 month of outstanding reviews from the current 3+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 June 2025 through 30 June 2025.
You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.
Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.
There is a backlog of over 3200 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:25, 20 May 2025 (UTC)
- If you wish to opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself from the mailing list or alternatively to opt-out of all massmessage mailings, you may add Category:Wikipedians who opt out of message delivery to your user talk page.
Question from Mgijimi on Cultural heritage (18:21, 20 May 2025)

Question from Sofía.Y.06 (13:23, 22 May 2025)
[edit]In certain citations, I need to quote some book's lines instead of pages due to the book being a greek classical work. What can I do so that the citation does not say "pp" but "líns"? --Sofía.Y.06 (talk) 13:23, 22 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Sofía.Y.06, here's what I found to get around that. Here's the usual cite book template:
{{cite book :|last = :|first = :|date = :|title = :|url = :|location = :|publisher = :|page = :|isbn = :|access-date = :}}
- You want to use "at" instead of "page", and then just add in the abbreviation for line:
{{cite book :|last = :|first = :|date = :|title = :|url = :|location = :|publisher = :|at = l. 45 :|isbn = :|access-date = :}}
- Here's the new cite: [1] Alyo (chat·edits) 16:11, 22 May 2025 (UTC)

Question from HERI Joshua (10:15, 23 May 2025)
[edit]Hello my dearest Mentor, How can I publish my Article on Wikipedia? Thank you! --HERI Joshua (talk) 10:15, 23 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @HERI Joshua, what are you trying to write about? Are you trying to publish this content again? Alyo (chat·edits) 13:46, 23 May 2025 (UTC)
- I'm trying to write my new article

- @HERI Joshua what article are you trying to write? what are you trying to write about? Alyo (chat·edits) 13:40, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
- My Article is named : Four Types of Socio-Self Perception HERI Joshua (talk) 19:12, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
- @HERI Joshua, I suggest you start a draft of the article in your own "userspace", at User:HERI Joshua/sandbox or User:HERI Joshua/draft, and then tell me when you have content that I can provide feedback on. However, just know that you need to be able to provide citations to what you write, and so you need to make sure that your topic is covered in detail by multiple reliable sources. Alyo (chat·edits) 23:50, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for the feedback
- I'll let you know when it's ready HERI Joshua (talk) 06:15, 26 May 2025 (UTC)

Question from Wonder Thegreat on User:Wonder Thegreat (15:00, 24 May 2025)
[edit]Hello, how do I make the public read about me here --Wonder Thegreat (talk) 15:00, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Wonder Thegreat, Wikipedia is not the place to write your autobiography. Alyo (chat·edits) 23:51, 24 May 2025 (UTC)
Hi GrayStorm, it's a pleasure to meet you here. I look forward to learning from you. --AG JOEY (talk) 14:54, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
Hello Alyo, I am a new Wikipedia editor. I thought of a couple of questions before starting: 1) Do references need to be used in the text to be listed in the References section? 2) If I add text in the middle of an existing entry, with a new reference, will references later in the text be renumbered automatically? Thanks in advance for sharing your guidance! PSU-TRS88 --PSU-TRS88 (talk) 11:12, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @PSU-TRS88, these are great questions! To answer simply: yes (generally) to both of your questions. When you edit wikis, there are certain types of code that will automatically do most of this for you. You should read this help page, but when you use
<ref>...</ref>
tags (with the citation in between the tags), the citation will automatically be numbered and added to a list at the end of the page. The list is generated wherever the{{reflist}}
template is placed, so just make sure that template exists--it's usually in the References section. Alyo (chat·edits) 14:34, 29 May 2025 (UTC)

[edit]How do I add a row to the Filmography table? --Metvfan (talk) 23:57, 29 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Metvfan, I believe that you are using the visual editor, so when you click edit and then select any row, a little arrow pops up on the left side of the table that allows you to insert a row above or below, similar to Excel. Do you see that? Alyo (chat·edits) 16:31, 30 May 2025 (UTC)
