Hi, can You please explain me this change? I’m sure I checked that when I wrote the article, but I couldn’t find any prove for bass viola to mean the instrument that is called Kontrabass in German. And I still can’t. I’m no expert for this topic. --Senechthon (Diskussion) 00:18, 24. Dez. 2022 (CET)Beantworten

Greetings! It was an unexpected series of mouse clicks which led me today to read the bio of the American actress in German. Although I had read Virginia Gregg's Wikipedia bio in English several times before, I didn't really absorb until today the interesting revelation that she was proficient on the double bass (= contrabass, sometimes called bass violin or just plain bass). No matter which term you use, it still refers to the large instrument played standing up at the back of today's orchestras, whereas the "bass viola," at least in English, has connotations of "Early Music," along with the viola da gamba, the viol, the bass viol, etc. In 20th-century America, Ms. Gregg would have grown up exposed to the family of modern orchestral strings only, namely, the violin, the viola, the cello and the [double] bass. --Composer18 (Diskussion) 02:17, 24. Not sure what to tell you, Senechthon, other than to surf the net in English, using all the terms in question. I think you will discover that "we" just don't use the term "bass viola." Naturally, there is the well-known "viola" (Ger., Viola bzw. Bratsche), and the equally well-known "double bass" (Ger., Kontrabass, bzw. Bass), which we also refer to as "contrabass." I hope this helps. Sorry for the long delay! --Composer18 (Diskussion) 19:43, 26. Jan. 2024 (CET)Beantworten
