Turiya Haudenhuyse (born June 27, in Bruges, Belgium) is a Belgian soprano of Indian heritage, known for her versatile performances in opera, concert repertoire, and cross-genre collaborations. She has appeared with leading European opera companies and festivals, including the Dutch National Opera, Opéra de Lausanne, and the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence. Her repertoire spans from classical roles to contemporary and indie pop projects.

Early Life and Education

Haudenhuyse began her musical journey with studies in piano and violin, later focusing on voice. She trained at LUCA School of Arts in Belgium, before pursuing studies at the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne, where she obtained a Master of Arts in Concert Performance. She further refined her vocal artistry with a Master of Music in Vocal Performance with Distinction from the Royal College of Music in London in 2016.

Career

Haudenhuyse made her debut at the Dutch National Opera in 2018 as Dinah in Leonard Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti, earning critical acclaim in outlets including The New York Times.[1] She reprised the role of Dinah in Bernstein's A Quiet Place at Opera Zuid. Her operatic roles also include Zerlina in Mozart's Don Giovanni (Rye Arts Festival), Papagena in Die Zauberflöte, Mercédès in Bizet’s Carmen (Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg), Iphigénie in Gluck's Iphigénie en Tauride, and Annina in Verdi’s La Traviata (Clonter Opera).

She has participated in world premieres and contemporary works, including The Hive at Grimeborn Festival and Der Eisenhut at Tête-à-Tête Opera Festival. In 2019, Haudenhuyse was selected to participate in the highly regarded Vocal Residency at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence, a residency for emerging opera stars.

Her concert performances have taken her across major venues in Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. In 2025, she performed at the Royal Gala of the Belgian Economic Mission in Mumbai, led by Princess Astrid of Belgium. Oratorio appearances include Handel’s Messiah and Bach’s Magnificat with Capriccio Barockorchester Basel.

Cross-genre

In addition to her classical career, Haudenhuyse is recognized for her cross-genre collaborations. She was featured on Dutch national television (Podium Klassiek), performing with the Fuse (ensemble) and jazz pianist Sven Figee for the release of the biographical film Maestro, about Leonard Bernstein.

Haudenhuyse is also part of the indie-pop duo Sister Rebel, alongside her sister. Their debut single "Let Go", released in December 2024, marked Haudenhuyse’s foray into the pop music world, showcasing her diverse artistic range.
