Melvin Dain (born 27 October 1996) is a Ghanaian actor and filmmaker. He has worked in film and television in Ghana and Nigeria. He is known for his roles in ENO (2024), For Love and Country (2025), and House of Klu (2025).[1][2] He was nominated for Actor of the Year (English) at the 2025 YEN Entertainment Awards.[3]

Early life and education

Melvin Dain was born in Kadjebi, in Ghana’s Oti Region.[4] He was raised by his mother and lived in towns including Jasikan, Kumasi, Dodo Amanfrom, and Hohoe.

He completed basic school at AME Zion in Hohoe in 2011 and senior high school at Dodi Papase Senior High Technical School in 2014. He later studied for a BSc in Governance and Development Studies at the Institute of Local Government Studies in Accra, expected to graduate in 2027.

In 2024, Dain attended the EbonyLife Creative Academy in Lagos, Nigeria, to train in screen acting under Drikus Volschenk.[5]

Career

Early work

Dain’s first on-screen appearance was in the TV drama College Diary, which aired on GHOne TV. He began acting professionally in 2019.[6]

Breakthrough and recognition

In 2024, Dain appeared in the Showmax Original series ENO (Season 2), directed by Shirley Frimpong-Manso.[7] In 2025, he starred in the film For Love and Country, also directed by Frimpong-Manso.[8] That year he also led the series House of Klu, produced by Ivan Quashigah.[9]

Dain also had roles in King of T3MA (2025) and Terminus (2022).

Filmmaking and direction

In 2024, Dain directed and starred in the short film Shadows of Ambition, which was selected for several film festivals.[10] He co-starred in the short film Ogbanjé (2024), which screened at a London festival and received awards including Best Nollywood Short.[11] In 2025, he directed the short film Quiet and worked on new projects titled Akoto and Apparation.

In November 2024, Dain founded Onyx Vision Studios, a production company in Ghana focused on film and television.[12]

Personal life

Dain works between Ghana and Nigeria. He has described himself as a working actor rather than a celebrity.[13]
