David Murphy (comedian)
[edit]David Murphy, known professionally as Murph, is an American comedian, actor, and television writer based in Los Angeles, California. He is recognized for his stand-up performances at venues like the Laugh Factory and for his role as co-head writer for the second season of the BET+ comedy series Churchy. Murphy has also contributed to projects by the Farrelly brothers and appeared on Revolt TV's comedy series Funny AF.
Early Life and Education
[edit]Murphy graduated from Occidental College in Los Angeles, where he majored in economics. During his time at Occidental, he developed an interest in performance, influenced by an acting class he took to impress a fellow student.This experience sparked his passion for comedy and storytelling.
Career

[edit]Murphy began his stand-up career in 2014, performing at open mics in North Hollywood. He has since become a regular performer at the Laugh Factory in Hollywood, sharing the stage with comedians such as Erik Griffin. His comedic style often draws from personal experiences and observations, resonating with diverse audiences.
Television Writing
[edit]In 2024, Murphy was appointed as the co-head writer for the second season of Churchy, a comedy series on BET+ created by Kevin "KevOnStage" Fredericks. The show, which became the number one scripted comedy on the platform during its debut week, follows the story of Corey Carr Jr., a man navigating the challenges of establishing his own ministry in a small Texas town.
Murphy has also contributed as a writer to projects by the Farrelly brothers, including two seasons of the streaming series Loudermilk and the 2021 show The Now for the Roku Channel.
