History
[edit]

José Chapur Zahoul founded the hotel chain The Palace Company, previously known as Palace Resorts, in 1984 with the opening of the Cancun Beach Club in Cancun, Mexico, a 162-room property currently known as Beach Palace Cancun.[2]
During the 1990s, the company continued its expansion with the opening of Moon Palace Nizuc and Moon Palace Sunrise, which became its most prominent properties in Cancun, operating under the Moon Palace brand.[3][4]
In the 2000s, the company added new resorts, including Cozumel Palace, Playacar Palace and Le Blanc Spa Resort. Le Blanc Spa Resort was later renovated in 2018.[5][6]
In 2015, the company expanded to Jamaica with the opening of Moon Palace Jamaica , and in 2016, Moon Palace The Grand – Cancun was added to its portfolio.[7]
In 2018, the brand expanded to the Pacific coast with the opening of Le Blanc Spa Resort Los Cabos, an adults-only, all-inclusive resort.[8]
In February 2019, the company received the Best Place to Work recognition from Computrabajo, a ranking that evaluates employee satisfaction and well-being within organizations in Mexico.[9]
In November 2022, the group announced the acquisition of Baglioni Hotels, incorporating properties in London, Rome, Venice, Milan, Florence, Sardinia, Puglia, and the Maldives. Following this expansion, the company adopted the name The Palace Company.[10]
By 2025, the group plans to open Moon Palace The Grand in Punta Cana, which is expected to become the largest resort in Punta Cana.[11]
Golf Courses
[edit]The Moon Spa & Golf Club, located at Moon Palace Cancun, features a 27-hole golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus.[12]
The upcoming Moon Palace The Grand - Punta Cana is planned to feature an 18-hole course designed by Greg Norman.
Earth Inclusive
[edit]Earth Inclusive is the sustainability program developed by The Palace Company, a hospitality group that includes brands such as Palace Resorts, Moon Palace, Le Blanc Spa Resorts, and Baglioni Hotels & Resorts. The initiative aims to reduce the environmental impact of the company’s operations and promote sustainable tourism practices across its properties.[13]
The program is structured around three main pillars: circular economy practices, natural resource conservation, and waste management.
As part of its resource conservation strategy, Earth Inclusive implements:
- Energy efficiency measures, including LED lighting systems and motion sensors to reduce electricity consumption.
- Water management systems, such as rainwater harvesting and wastewater treatment plants that allow for reuse in landscaping and sanitation.
In terms of waste management, the program includes:
- Waste separation stations across hotel properties to sort organic, recyclable, and hazardous materials.
- Sustainability training and awareness campaigns for both employees and guests to encourage environmentally responsible behavior.
In 2024, the program received a Silver EarthCheck certification, an international recognition awarded to tourism operators that demonstrate measurable environmental and social sustainability performance.
