Dr. Uma Shankar Prasad (Nepali: डा.उमा शंकर प्रसाद) is a Nepali economist and academic. He is an Associate Professor at the Central Department of Economics, Tribhuvan University. [edit]Uma Shankar Prasad was born in Madhav Narayan Municipality, Rautahat District, Madhesh Province, Nepal. He completed his Master of Arts in Economics at Tribhuvan University. He pursued an MPhil and PhD in economics at Jawaharlal Nehru University in India. His doctoral research focused on the impact of economic reforms on public finance and poverty in Nepal.[1]

[edit]Prasad began his academic career at the Centre for Economic Development and Administration (CEDA) under Tribhuvan University. He later joined the Central Department of Economics, where he teaches and supervises postgraduate and doctoral research.[2]

[edit]Prasad has held significant public appointments. From 2018 to 2020, he was the Chairperson of the Health Insurance Board in Nepal, leading initiatives to expand healthcare coverage. He also served as a member of the National Planning Commission of Nepal during two terms.[3]
