Option to have multiple topics for one template?
[edit]I recently made an edit request to an editnotice page, and someone brought up how much clutter there is from Template:Contentious topics/editnotice appearing multiple times on the same editnotice, but for a different topic. For example: at Template:Editnotices/Page/Killing of Iryna Zarutska, this whole message appears twice, with the only difference being that "post-1992 American politics" is the subject of the first message and BLP is the subject of the second message. Everything else has literally the same exact wording between the two templates. Because of this, I really think there should be an option to allow multiple topics to be selected for one transclusion to reduce clutter. 137a (talk • edits) 00:38, 30 September 2025 (UTC)

- It is on my list to extend this functionality from {{contentious topics/talk notice}}. Best, HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 01:42, 30 September 2025 (UTC)
Licensing issue with File:Commons-emblem-hand.svg on Template:Contentious topics/page restriction editnotice base
[edit]I noticed that the file File:Commons-emblem-hand.svg is licensed as CC BY, which requires the link to the file description page for attribution and notice of the license (see MOS:PDI for more info), but the template {{Contentious topics/page restriction editnotice base}} suppresses the file description page link. There are a few ways this might be fixed: 1) Remove the |link= so the image is linked; 2) Replace the image with a different one (perhaps newly created) that is public domain or CC0; 3) Declare the image to be some version of PD-ineligible, and change the licensing on Commons accordingly (and make sure no one there reverts); 4) Remove the image entirely. Since this template is for such a sensitive area, I decided not to try to decide on an option myself without attempting discussion first. Thanks! Anomie⚔ 21:29, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
- I've gone with (1) for now. No strong objection to finding a new image; if anyone (clerks, arbs, or onlookers!) has a suggestion for one that is PD or CC0, please chime in. Thanks Anomie :) HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 23:25, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
Sortability of table
[edit]I would like to make {{Contentious topics/table}} more properly sortable, by changing, for example:
- the Arab–Israeli conflict -> Arab–Israeli conflict
- post-1992 politics of the United States and closely related people -> United States: post-1992 politics and closely related people
- the region of South Asia (India... -> South Asia region (India...

- Marking as answered until there is consensus for this change, since it affects many pages. Please discuss. – Jonesey95 (talk) 20:34, 22 October 2025 (UTC)
- The change makes sense to me. We can't control what people might be able to discuss on any other-language Wikipedias. Anomie⚔ 20:37, 22 October 2025 (UTC)
