Template-protected edit request on 4 September 2025: Use semantic markup (bold → strong, italics → em)
[edit]This edit request has been answered. Set the |answered= parameter to no to reactivate your request. |
This renders the same visually, but adds additional cues for accessibility, e.g. a screen reader can use a different voice.
Specifically:
- Change all instances of
'''...'''to<strong>...</strong> - Change all instances of
''...''to<em>...</em>
I put this change on the sandbox. I also added test cases for |yesnomaybe=.

- I support this change fwiw. FaviFake (talk) 14:56, 19 October 2025 (UTC)

Streamline wording
[edit]The notice is too complex for such a simple message. There's no other way to substitute a template other than to use "subst:"", so there's so need to use i.e., . I propose changing it from this:
| This template should always be substituted – use {{subst:Template talk:Always substitute}}. |
to this {{Always substitute/sandbox}}:
| This template should always be substituted – use {{subst:Template talk:Always substitute}}. |
With this change, the bolding would also be consistent with similar templates such as {{Substitution}}:
| This template should {{{1}}} be substituted. |
Thoughts? FaviFake (talk) 22:55, 31 October 2025 (UTC)
- My thoughts would be that one thing I've learned over the years is that verbs that end in "ing" tend to be on the weak side, so I usually avoid them in order to strengthen verbiage, especially wording that shows people what to do. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. – welcome! – 11:15, 4 November 2025 (UTC)
