Possibly a hidden Ad Campaign?
[edit]Note that reference 50 leads to http://vitreoqr.com/2014/QR_Code.html a company that CLEARLY is selling QR Codes. We should also note that everyone CAN download the iQR generator from Denso-Wave's website after registering (free): http://www.denso-wave.com/en/adcd/product/software/building/qrdraw-ad.html IMHO, this reference should be changed or removed. I'd put this as the reference instead: http://www.qrcode.com/en/codes/iqr.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.250.154.18 (talk • contribs) 16:32, 4 July 2014
→ The vitreoqr.com domain is inactive. I believe the link should be removed and changed. Internetyev (talk) 18:36, 31 January 2025 (UTC)

Add a new bullet point to the "Standards" section to reflect a new version of the ISO/IEC 18004 standard released in 2024:
August 2024 - ISO/IEC 18004:2024 Information technology — Automatic identification and data capture techniques — QR code bar code symbology specification Optimizes encoding efficiency, improves error correction, and refines structured append functionality.
Note: The description above was generated using AI analysis to compare the two versions of the standard.

Suggestion for External Links Section
[edit]Hello!
I’d like to suggest adding a new link to the "External links" section of this article. The website provides a free and easy-to-use tool for generating QR codes specifically for payments (e.g. PayPal, Cash App, Venmo), which could be useful for readers interested in applying QR codes in real-world payment contexts.
Proposed link: QR Code Generator for Payment – OnlineQRCode.com
It’s a free, no-registration-needed generator focused on mobile payment applications. Thanks for considering! Claudialopra (talk 10:57, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
- The article would not benefit from promoting this business, and that's all a link like this would be doing. The specific URL you added provides QR coes that embed a tracker into their generated codes by default and as far as I can tell when trying does indeed require signing up. The root domain itself (which you did not link to) provides the ability to create a simple QR code, but also appears to require signing up to download them. Promotional links like this have no place on this or any other Wikipedia article. - Aoidh (talk) 16:14, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
Header image standards non-conformance
[edit]Please see the question posted here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/79786399/does-this-code-indicate-a-mistake-in-wikipedias-example-on-the-qr-code-page
It appears that the image at the top of this page may not technically be a valid QR code. In that case, it should probably be updated in the name of accuracy. Bismurphy (talk) 14:24, 13 October 2025 (UTC)
- I have uploaded a modified file here:

Derived from https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:QR_code_for_mobile_English_Wikipedia.svg with correction for Remainder bits. Modifications done by hand with manual modifying of SVG text format. - I am not sure what the best path for this change is - perhaps it would be ideal to replace the existing file? I do not have permissions to do so, unfortunately. Bismurphy (talk) 16:02, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
Too technical
[edit]The section on error correction and the description of how the message is encoded is too technical for most readers. It would really benefit from a subject-area expert who could help explain in more comprehensible terms what that error correction method is doing, what kinds of errors it's correcting, where those errors come from, how it corrects the errors, and what the practical result of error correction is for encoding/decoding a message. Following the link to Reed–Solomon error correction doesn't really help, as that article is also very hard to understand for lay readers.

Addition of trademark statement example
[edit]Hi User:ウィキの数鉄マニア!
The section you've added about a recommended trademark statement is unnecessary. For the purposes of the article itself, we don't need the exact trademark statement recommended by Denso Wave, as we're already clearly stating that Denso Wave is the trademark and wordmark holder of "QR Code" in the next paragraph of the License section. And for the purposes of including it to show to other people an example of what they should do if they're using the word "QR Code" in a webpage, Wikipedia is not a how-to guide. Information on how exactly to use the QR Code trademark is best left on the Denso Wave website, which is referenced in the section about the trademark.
If you still disagree, I'd be happy to hear what you think.
