- diffhist Unix 22:48 −12 Guy Harris talk contribs (Illumos is based on OpenSolaris, which is based on System V Release 4. The BSDs were originally based on various versions of Research Unix. Linux in the Linux distributions sense, however, is not based on AT&T code, except perhaps some of the bits of Unix that AT&T open-sourced, such as, I think, cpio may have been in some distributions at some point, so I wouldn't include Linux in that list.)

- diffhist Exec (system call) 23:08 +27 Guy Harris talk contribs (→In Unix, POSIX, and other multitasking systems: "POSIX" isn't a system, it's a specification that several systems implement. Speak of "POSIX", "other Unix-like systems", and "other multitasking systems" (to cover OS/2 and Windows).)
- diffhist Exec (system call) 22:59 −44 Guy Harris talk contribs (→Versus spawning: The reference doesn't say anything about whether it's usually implemented with vfork and, on the machine on which I'm typing this, which is running an Unix with a larger desktop/laptop market share than Linux, it's *not* implemented atop fork or vfork, it's a separate system call.)
- diffhist Exec (system call) 22:49 −155 Guy Harris talk contribs (→Nomenclature: The details of how many (most?) Unix-like systems implement the exec*() routines isn't very relevant. (And the behavior in question isn't Linux-only.))
