  • Comment: The person may be notable from the interviews, but I feel it needs a bit more. Keep in mind you can cite offline sources. However, I there is issues with the tone of the article. Don't use weasal words like "ideal example", "extraordinary", and "impact beyond its theatrical distribution". The article must be neutral and only containing objective facts. • Comment: Only one of the three current references actually mention the subject at all and it is in fact just a passing mention, it contains no actual information about Mulholland Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 19:14, 29 March 2015 (UTC)

John Mulholland is an American writer and director, specializing in documentaries. He was born in New York City, where he still lives. Mulholland’s most recent documentary is Cooper & Hemingway: The True Gen, exploring the 20-year friendship between Academy Award-winning actor Gary Cooper and Nobel- and Pulitzer Prize- winning author Ernest Hemingway.[1]

Documentaries

Mulholland is drawn to the political controversy behind the making of classic films. In bringing these controversies to life on screen, he uses Broadway and Hollywood veterans for both on-camera and voice-over narration; such as:

Inside High Noon: Inside High Noon explores the political and blacklisting controversy during the filming of the 1952 film classic, High Noon. Three-time Tony winner and Academy Award-nominated actor Frank Langella narrator (President Bill Clinton and Albert II, Prince of Monaco among on-camera interviews).[2]

Sergeant York: Of God And Country: The documentary examines how the 1941 classic, Sergeant York, became embroiled in the isolationist and political turmoil leading into World War II. Tony- and Academy Award-nominee Liam Neeson narrator.

Liza Minnelli Reflecting: Tony, Academy Award, Emmy, and Grammy winner Liza Minnelli, solo on-camera.

On Macbeth Explores the troubled history of staging Macbeth. (Estelle Parsons on-screen narrator)

Eastern European Composers (Jack Palance on-screen narrator)

Up to Mulholland's latest:

Cooper & Hemingway: The True Gen. Narrated by Sam Waterston, with Tony-winner Len Cariou as Ernest Hemingway, True Gen has an original score by classical pianist and composer, Byron Janis.[3]

True Gen grew out of an article which Mulholland wrote for the Idaho Press-Tribune about the Cooper/Hemingway friendship.[4] True Gen opened in theaters in the Fall of 2013. In exploring the lives of these two American icons, True Gen examines the 20th Century world which both men dominated for so long. It was a New York Times Critics Pick.[5]

True Gen's roster of on-camera interviews includes: Elmore Leonard, Jim Harrison, Kirk Douglas, David Douglas Duncan, Charlton Heston, Patrick Hemingway, Dolores Hart, Brian Garfield, Patricia Neal, Pia Lindstrom, Bill Blass, Stephen Prince, Budd Schulberg, A. E. Hotchner, George Plimpton, Robert Stack, David Brown[6] -- among many others.[7][8]

Mulholland has discussed True Gen at universities and film festivals around the country.[9][10][11] While researching True Gen in Cuba, Mulholland spoke on Cuban radio in Havana.[12]

In author and scholar Ron McFarland's recently published (2014) book on Ernest Hemingway, he writes: "True Gen, written and directed by John Mulholland, is exceptional, a NY Times Critics Pick, it opened in 2013 to considerable fanfare in NYC ..."[13]

ICONS Radio Hour

Mulholland hosted a radio podcast show, ICONS Radio Hour, for four years -- 2007 to 2010. He interviewed both current Hollywood artists and those with first-hand knowledge of the Classic Hollywood era. At times, Mulholland was joined by author and film historian Meir Z. Ribalow.[14]

Elmore Leonard Documentary

Mulholland is currently working on a documentary on author Elmore Leonard, to be released in 2016.
